This is how you intentionally run a ship aground.

I at first expected it to be about the same size as the other two ships lol. Though seeing the filth in the water doesn't exactly give me a good feeling.

Upgraded/replaced by newer/bigger ships, and the owner cannot find a buyer who is willing to pay more than the scrap company is offering. Sometimes, due to downturns in the economy or whatnot, companies might have an aging idle ship they cannot lease-out or find any work for, is costing them more to keep it around and maintain than just selling it to a scrap company.

it's more likely due to slow economy that the aging ship was kept in place for as long as it was.
 
Came in a little hot. I saw a similar scene at the grocery store reenacted by an old man into a snow banked parking space.
