before i start i'm sorry for my spelling

Right i purchased a duron 700 and a KT7-RAID and a FOP38 globalwin HSF (the best around)

I tryed about 4 times to unlock the duron by using a pencil to bridge the L1 cashes.

But this method does not work and is a waste of peoples time.

The way you unlock the duron is simple and u will need the following equipment:

a cocktail stick
some conductive paint (in the UK this can be purchased from Maplins or you can use a rear window defogger repair kit, its basicly the same stuff but i could only get conductive paint)
and a magnify glass i used a 20x (the ones that jewlers use but a 6x will do)

Before i start i will give you 1 piece of advice try and borrow some conductive paint because i only used about 0.2mm of the stuff and the bottle cost me £7

First thing:

remove the cpu from the MoBo and place it on a non-metal object (i used some foam)

Second:
Shake the bottle of paint very well and then open and dip in the cocktail stick. You do not need to cover the cocktail stick in the stuff just a dab will do.

Third:
very carefully use the cocktail stick to re-bridge the gaps between all 4 of the L1 cashes.

to start with just apply a very thin coating of paint with the tip of the cocktail stick.

let it dry for a few seconds.

You can use the cocktail sticks side to place the paint over the gaps more easerly

Fourth:
Use the magnifying glass to check that the gaps are complete and that you can not see any of the orignal points, also make sure that none of the bridges have been crossed if they have don't panic just use a pin and scratch away the paint (it does work)

Fith:
let the paint dry for a couple of minutes and then but your system back together
then all you have to do is change the multipler settings in the bois and your laughing.

results:
after 2 minutes i could jack the cpu up to 900 (9*100)
i am trying to get it up to 1Ghz i will post my progress if i hit this target

have fun

Seems to be kind of hit and miss with the pencil trick. While your attempt with your Duron 700 fail, my attempt with my Duron 700 succeeded, and it is not happily running at 1.03 Ghz (with FOP38). However, you method is much more robust than a line of pencil lead. Good luck on reaching 1 Ghz+.

Well, the pencil also worked for my 600. First try and it has been running 1001 for about a month.

I just had to get a better HS and Fan to hit the G-spot.

I guess it comes from all of the Connect-the-dot art work when I was a kid. ;)

It takes the right technique with the pencil.

Once you've done a few, you get used to it really quick. My first attempt failed, but after a successful retry, I have my technique down cold. On my third processor, it started right up without any problems.

in my opinion u shouldn't even try do unlock with the pencil cos i tryed 4 times and each time it failed it just wastes time, you should just go and use the conductive paint straight away

I tried to pencil trick on my Duron 600MHz five times and I never got it working.. I had to buy some Quick Grid Rear Window Defogger resin in order to unlock that CPU. I tried the pencil trick once on this Duron 800MHz and it worked perfectly.

The pencil trick worked for me and I got my Thunderbird 900@1.05ghz. I had the system running stable around a month. After that, the stability decreased rapidly. I would get random reboots and the computer would only boot up at 900mhz. I guess the pencil trick is a good quick way to find out the max your CPU can handle. After that, I suggest getting something more professional and permanent like conductor pen or paint.

Works for me!!!

buzzby, if it doesn't work for you, then cool that your alternative worked. Don't discourage people from trying the pencil trick. A lot of people do have success with it and the price is unbeatable!

This info could be wrong. I read it and don't know these things firsthand but...

In regards to jimmygates stability decreasing over time, it's probably not due to the pencil trick losing its effectivness. The article I read stated that the filled in bridges, regardless of the fill-in method, only come into play during the boot-up. Once the multiplier is set, and the system is running, you could erase, cut, or otherwise remove the bridges and it would have no effect.
