I am waiting for the russians to bring back the mastodon, release then into northern Siberia, and then open a stone age theme park.

There are an article on the BBC last year about the Japanese finding mastodon in hair fibers.

That video is actually really dumb. Most of it is spent talking about how some people are trying to breed zebra's to look like quagga, which isn't actually resurrecting the species. They won't have the same dna makeup as a quagga just look similar to them.

This is how humans have created other species in the past, specialty breeding for desired traits and attributes. It won't have the genetic make up as the original Quagga, but given time, it'll have a different genetic make up than the zebra.

I wouldn't call it dumb but misleading for sure. I wouldn't call that "resurrecting" an extinct species but actually coming up with something with similar genetic make-up. The extinct species as it really was is still non-existent.

Maybe dumb was too strong of a word, but they start out talking about JP being based on getting ancient DNA from quagga and then segue into the breeding thing, which isn't anywhere near as cool.
