One of these happened in oakland recently (or was it sf?). Basically they would get a bunch of useless guns. Heck, some people would go out and buy guns that were cheaper than what the city was paying and sell it right back out. News stories get the ones where some old lady brings in something her "husband" left when he died that she could have gotten a decent chunk of change on the free market for.

A bunch of shitty guns that are worthless. Great job getting those off the street.

Yes, I mean you can hardly go a day without seeing some news story about someone robbing a bank with a bolt-action rifle.

Why would you ever have a gun buy? It doesn't make anyone safer and those guns are worthless.

Ugh, that sucks. I bought my M1 from a woman who's husband passed away. I was glad to pay full book value for such a fine rifle. Guy was a retired cop with lots of nice firearms.

Just like how California seems to hate the 50bmg so much. Criminals just love weapons that cost them 4 bucks a pop to shoot. Many a liquer store must have been robbed with a barrett. 50 is such an evil number though.

Didn't they ban bayonets at one point?

I don't know about bayonets, but they did ban bayonet mounts on semi-automatic rifles, considering them one of the defining features of "assault rifles." You know, because of all those drive-by bayonet attacks.

They also banned folding stocks, pistol grips (because they let you "shoot from the hip"), and barrel shrouds (which one representative described as a "shoulder thing that goes up").

Basically, California still has an assault weapons ban in place even after the national one expired, and theirs is even more restrictive. It essentially bans any semi-automatic rifle that resembles a military service rifle from the 50's or later.

Of course anyone who already owns these weapons were allowed to keep them. I have a MAK-90 I bought back in 1994 in my gun safe at home. I had to register it with the state though so they know I have it.

I also have another AK knock off in my safe I'm holding for a woman I used to work for. It's funny, she's got 3 kids now and has expressed no interest in getting it back. I haven't even talked to her in years. She gave me that gun and 15 30rnd magazines. Her ex-husband gave her the gun decades ago.
