This is great. I bought a 160GB SATA harddrive at crapusa on Black Friday for $110 - $90 rebates, went to exchange it thursday (defective drive) and they told me they had to return/rebuy it (killed the rebates). I said no thanks, and apparently left my receipt there that day.

Went back friday night, they said sure we'll swap it (didn't realize I left my receipt there that day until later), and didn't even really process it. Awesome. I get home, decide to open it, and what do I find? Some old IDE drive with the sticker from the SATA drive. I don't have the original receipt anymore, and even worse I don't even have the fvcking drive I purchased.

It doesn't get any worse than this.

A good reason to open ANY hardware purchase at the store so you're not stuck with a returned box with a switched out component, a "computer box" that's nothing but blocks of wood, etc.

Was it an open box that they swapped it with? If so, you should ALWAYS open up stuff like that before you leave the store...

If you used plastic to pay for it, pull up the charge on you account and try to use that as POP.

Worst case, buy another one and return this one on that ticket (telling them it was a fake drive). Then, install one good drive and sell the other one on ebay for $20 or so loss overall.

It actually looked sealed. When I opened it I noticed the cardboard inside was all cut up...then I thought "fvck" and went straight to the drive.

I checked my online credit card statement and didn't see the charge...so it looks like I paid cash for this one. I almost never pay cash...argh.

I HATE that stores do that. I think resealing product and selling it as "new" should be criminal and I don't understand why it's not. It's refurbished at best.

Once I bought a CD Rom drive from Crapusa and after installing it the tray would not eject. After trying the old paperclip eject hole, which did not work, I forced it open. I found a NHL game cd stuck in the drive. I took it back to the store and told the manager I wanted my money back and he wanted to charge me a restocking fee. I then reminded him that I found a game CD in the drive and asked why they were selling used drives as new. He then decided to give me a full refund.
