This is depressing: "High School Lunch Photo Causes Concern Among Parents"

More than 700 students eat lunch at Warren East High School each day.
Someone posted a picture of Tuesday's lunch, and it spread on social media, causing concern among parents over the food's quality.
"They said someone's mom posted it and said, 'This is what they're feeding my 6'3" boy,'" explained Khalil Brit, a junior at the high school.
Several parents even contacted WBKO -- saying students leave hungry.

In the age of Diabetes and overweight children. Why are people complaining that people are trying provide healthy options for their kids to eat.

What healthy options? I see a styrofoam tray with nothing but processed garbage on it.

And who exactly was complaining about "healthy options" anyway?

Pretty poor reporting all the way around anyway, as I can't really tell what the actual complaint is- I'd assume the opposite of thinking the garbage shown is anything particularly healthy though.

Someone did invent (intentionally?) a great new term though: "Vomplaining."

I would assume 'vomplaining' involves vomiting your dissatisfaction with the lunch menu.

while i agree. for some kids this is the only way they get to eat a lunch (or even at all). you reduce the size and calorie intake it hurts them.

why do you hate the poor? damn 1%er

I doubt the lunch is free for everyone but still a good point.
I remember our lunches pretty much always had a vegetable with them.
 
The article points out how the students decide how much and what goes on their plates. None of these children are denied a full and filling meal. Whoever took that picture was either trolling or looking for attention.

On the subject of school lunches, I would love to see all public schools ban serving any processed sugar foods. You want candy, sugary soda and pixie sticks for lunch? Let your parents pack that for you.
 
So wait... is the complaint that there should be *more* garbage on the tray?

Is it just that that's not enough garbage as a stand-in for proper food; more garbage would be preferable?

garbage? after the first lady had schools change lunch?

it's not garbage anymore its "healthy" though some of the guidlines are insane.

the calorie guidline is

• 650 calories for Grades K-5.

• 700 calories for Grades 6-8.

• 850 calories for Grades 9-12.



for obese kids ok yeah i can see it. the problem comes from active healthy kids this is far to few.

I know in high school no way in hell would i been good with 850 calories! between sports and having a high metabolism i would be hungry after that.
 
There are a lot of districts where are large percentage of kids get free and reduced lunches. So these crap lunches are put together on the cheapest of budgets. Where my wife teaches they have over 50% of kids on free lunches. The cafeteria ladies pretty much only heat the food and do no cooking what so ever.

many schools have cancelled recess's and kids get 15-20 minute lunch.

I think keeping recess and PE have two benifits. 1 it helps kids keep the weight off. 2nd is boys just have a ton of energy. it helps them focus on schoolwork if they get to burn some off.
 
Amazing. Post 15 before someone actually bothered to look at the menu - or READ THE POST. The picture does not represent actual meals, and they're allowed as many vegetables as they want - according to students.
 
For a government provided lunch it looks pretty standard to me, whether it be the lunch or the education.

What I loved, absolutely loved, about middle school was unlimited access to subsidized milk. Any time of day, during class changes, we could go grab a carton of milk (or chocolate milk) for a nickel. Or five cartons for a quarter. It was the best.
