Girl I am dating met my brother randomly on a flight to Toronto.
She heard his name mentioned by someone and asked him if he's related to me.
Out of all the flights in the world, they happen to both be on the same one.
Crazy, I tell you.

It may not be chance at all...:)

All joking aside, I had a similar experience.

I was on a regional fight (Taipei-Kaohsiung) and was seated with a couple about my dad's age. We got talking and then realised we know each other... Turns out the dude is a good buddy of my dad and we haven't seen each other for like 15 years. I am talking this guy used to spend nights at my house and play all night Mahjong. It's a fairly regular occurrence when I was a kid.

Was quite trippy. And it's not like I am a frequent flyer either, that was my only return trip to Taiwan in that year.

Not as crazy as my Mom bumping into my Aunt on the same connecting flight home from different business trips.

Crazy, no. Common yes. I have meet old acquaintances ( or friends of acquaintances) in movie theaters, stores etc. The more people you know the more likely this is to occur.

Many years ago we went to NY for my brother's graduation. We decided to go to some "famous" deli in NYC one night. My uncle gets to talking to the old guy behind the register who had a familiar accent. It turns out the guy is from the same small (and i mean small) village in Romania as my grandfather's family and that he recalls shopping in my great-grandfather's store.

He recalled meeting one or more of my great-grandfather's sons, but, since there were 6 boys (and 5 girls) in the family, we cannot be sure that this guy met my grandfather, but it is possible.

Weird.

I ran into an old badminton foe from Alberta in Innsbruck, Austria, and then the next morning a chick I went to middle school with showed up at the same hostel!

Also, in Australia, I booked a golf game in Noosa, Queensland. My wife and I got to chatting with one of the people we were matched up with. He was the ex of one of my Mom's co-workers, and they all used to hang out together a lot. We ended up with some good stories about my Mom!

Had a similar experience...was flying home on a business trip from minnesota to Los Angeles with a stop in Las Vegas. I didn't have to switch planes so i was sitting in my seat oblivious to people leaving and new passengers getting on....when my old boss who I haven't seen in like 2 years sat next to me.
