I dunno. Some people don't necessarily achieve something by doing it the normal conventional way. Like some people solve mathematics problems in there own way, this is the way some people are able to exercise. Some people may not either have the desire or the want to exercise normally, so DDR allows them to have fun, do something they enjoy, and lose weight.

It's different for everyone. Personally, I hate running with a passion. It's very boring, very annoying, and very hard on my knees. Any indoor exercise is good, because then I can watch TV or read a book. Obviously hiking doesn't count.

Stop being such an exercise snob. I s'pose you are also believe that elliptical machines get as good or better cardio workout than running? If people are doing cardio, who cares what kind of cardio it is. Some people like running, some cycling, some elliptical, etc...

So what's your point? You want to decide how these fatsos should lose weight? You realize that the target audience doesn't(or is not like to) derive satisfaction from running, right? This sounds pretty good for gamers who want to lose weight. This is like telling someone you can lose weight by eating more ice cream.

im sure it works... i mean its cardio after all. That being said running couple of miles 2x a week should get you better results plus more muscle growth (more strenuous than jumping jacks a la ddr). Running will keep your heart rate up which should speed up your metabloism. DDR is stop and go last time i saw it, so running is definitelly better.

That being said if youre 250lbs, running is as much of a challenge as fitting in 737 coach seat....

I have two heavier friends, they are both brothers, BOTH lost ~15lbs on DDR in one month after they got the pad for their PS1, the following month one lost ~10lbs and the other 12lbs, keep in mind both weighed over 200, DDR DOES WORK, and it IS BETTER THAN RUNNING (edit: i guess it depends how fats ur running too ^_-)

I wanna see you back that statement up...how exactly could it be better than running.

Paintballing, imo, is definately more fun than CS. I've always wanted to go paintballing in a place like costco, big warehouse, and you could use anything in the store to build a little fort (plus the greats drinks they have😉) Plus you could climb the shelves!

Join the Army.....I was never big to begin with, but after close to 7 years in the Army doing PT everyday (strength training and 3 mile run) I was in great shape. Been out of the military for a few years now and boy did it make a difference. Im back up to 210 @6'2, and starting to get a small spare tire. I need to take up surfing or something to get back in shape.

if you've ever played it and gotten into it, seriously you burn off the fat. not sure if its better than running calorie-burning rate wise but it's a million times better than running for being able to keep you doing the exercise. running = boring as hell

Although I'm not a DDR fan myself, I've seem some of the better people play and can say without a doubt that it IS definately a phyical excersize. I think part of the effect of it is that people will run for half an hour, and sit down. For alot of people excersizing is flat out boring. If someone's playing DDR, they might keep playing for two hours, and they're more likely to keep doing that regularly. Running is nothing more than bouncing up and down with a slight push.

A means to an end. It elevates the heart rate and burns calories. End of story. If you don't want to do, it fine. What is your beef if people do it effectively?

Are you pissed that they are having fun working out while you are busy playing the role of the fitter-than-thou "No Pain No Gain" runner?

What's the difference between:
-Dancing on a mat while watching TV
-Doing an aerobics video
-Running on a treadmill while watching TV
-Riding a stationary bike while watching TV
-Using an elliptical while watching TV
-Running in place while watching TV
-Jumping rope while watching TV

Seems to me you just don't like the program they are watching on TV while they exercise.

I think you need to get over this.

Haha..does anyone remember the NES Power Pad? We got that as kids, with the idea we would get in shape with it..but we ended up just slapping the buttons with our hands to make the guy run faster.

Yeah that thing was cool in principle but sucked in reality. Half the time if you actually tried to 'run' on it the hits would never even register. We also ended up just slapping the buttons hehe.
