This is complete BS! Intel is charging for their webcam software, wtf?!

First, you have to buy their damned camera, thinking that it would natively support 2k, xp. But noooo, you have to BUY the damn 2k/xp upgrade separately!

What the hell? I almost bought an Intel cam a couple weeks ago too. Glad I didn't!

Well, if it was a newer cam, it should *probably* have the install software in there. But if it's an older cam, you're out of luck. I have to go check for myself at a retailer. I'm not paying intel 6 dollars for software that should come free, stupid bastages. What's six dollars to them? They rape on their processor prices anyways.

Uh... it's their product. You don't bitch if Microsoft doesn't give you versions of Windows for free, do you?

that analogy made no sense. whereas you don't need a new version of windows to use windows, you do need the software for the webcam to be of any use. it would be like if you bought a keyboard off ebay and found that it was missing the cord.

Look....I bought the upgrade cd a few months ago. Works perfect. At that time they offered a free download, but it was enormous....something like 250mb. The cd upgrade was cheap.....

If you *chose* to update your opperating system, then it's your fault for needing it. Just quit bitching and either don't use the webcam or pay a couple bucks for the damn webcam software or don't update your OS. It's really not Intel's problem what you do.

he can bitch all he wants, why should he stop? frankly, i think people have come to expect (and rightfully so) hardware manufacturers to provide the necessary drivers and software. it is IMPORTANT that erikiksaz bitch so that the rest of us know not to buy intel cameras.

They should talk about charging for the software. Microsoft doesn't charge for window's update or even a service pack. Why should Intel charge for the software that comes with the hardware. How would it be if all the hardware manufacturers charged for drivers or even for updating the drivers. You wouldn't mind them, and you wouldn't complain at all?

Aye, it's sad really. Hardware vendors charging for software upgrades, and people on AT being just too damn quick to flame. Sheesh, people these days! Well, off for another hour, searching that bloody site. I actually found it before, a few months ago, before my backup drive decided to unformat itself 🙁

You guys better not start crying and bitching when MS will charge for Serivice Packs and updates. Why should Intel charge for an update so he can use his cam on a newer version of Windows? Ridiculous!

A company charging for software just so that their product works is insane. How would we all like it if Nvidia decided to have never supported Windows XP and made you pay a 5$ service charge for the drivers just so it could work on your Windows XP box? Bet that would piss a hell of a lot of people off, but I guess since this only applies to a small product (Intel Webcam) it's not revelant eh? How bout for every time you select a download from WindowsUpdate.com or from Windows Product Support website they make you pay a $2 fee?

Think about what you're saying.

They are charging for drivers for a currently shipping product to make it work with the OS that 99% of pre-built PC's ship with.

UMAX did this too, they charge for all driver updates now.

Complete and total BS.

here is one that might sink in for some of you...

you buy a brand new game pad to play your new badass game and you cant get it to work. Upon further investigation you find out you have to BUY the software to make it work......
