RE: IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED

STOP THE KILLING OF EMBRYONIC HUMAN BEINGS

We need help in preventing the Stem Cell Research Act
(S.2015) from coming to the Senate floor for a vote next
week. Our allies who oppose the bill will engage in a filibuster
to prevent consideration of the legislation; however, a
"cloture" vote by 60 Senators would end the filibuster and
force a vote. The bill's sponsor already has 58 of the
necessary 60 votes to end the filibuster; if enough votes
are gathered to end the filibuster, Senate passage of S.
2015 is assured.

* The so-called "Stem Cell Research Act of 2000" introduced
by Senators Specter and Harkin would provide federal funding
for researchers to obtain and kill living human embryos.

* This "research" would use your taxpayer dollars to help
the government obtain, and therefore "own," a vast supply of
living human embryos. The idea of "ownership" of other
human beings, particularly by the Federal government is
deeply disturbing.

* If Congress were to approve S. 2015, it would officially
declare, for the first time in our nation's history, that
government may exploit and destroy human life for research
purposes.

* We support the advancement of medicine and science through
ethical stem cell research; morally sound and scientifically
advanced alternatives to human embryo experimentation
already exist. Stem cells are found, among others, in
adults in bone marrow and nerve tissue and advances in the
use of the anti-aging enzyme telomerase have created the
further possibility of regenerating older adult tissue.
Moreover, the use of one's own stem cells for one's own body
eliminates the possibility of the newly generated tissue
being rejected. Additionally, stem cells are found in
umbilical cords and placentas.

* According to a 1995 Tarrance poll, 74 percent of Americans
oppose the use of tax dollars for human embryo
experimentation. Sixty-four percent indicate "very strong"
opposition. This opposition crosses all demographic lines.

It's bad. Yeah. Even if it was passed into a Act, the Supreme Court could (and probably would) declare it unconstitutional.

Is this all you know about the subject, an e-mail that someone sent you? Have you done any research on your own?

"Not all anti-abortionists follow the anti-stem-cell-funding argument, though. These same cells are thrown away every day as byproducts of in-vitro fertilization. When a woman's egg is fertilized outside the body, the procedure produces excess embryonic material, which is simply discarded. This differs from the abortion procedure."

Do I support abortion to get stem cells, NO. Do I support using the tissue of a child born dead to save the life of others, yes.
