"The SCH-X820 is the first cell phone that incorporates a VHF/UHF tuner into its circuitry, while not increasing the overall size of the phone."

Most of Western Europe and Asia have converted to third generation phones. The United States, on the other hand, is stuck with second and 2.5 generation mobile phones with very slow progress being made towards the "cooler" third generation phones =/.

Some of the features that we are missing out on here in the states:

Video calling
Video and photo messaging
Video download
Media player (audio and video)
Audio messaging
Boundless Text messaging (no 255 char limit)
Increased Battery Life
384 kbs download speeds
Truely Wireless Hassle Free Web Access on the Fly

*sigh*

Does it send and receive calls? Good enough for me.

Whats the rage with text messaging? Mine has it but why would you need it on a phone?

It's a phone....

Does it ring when someone calls you? Can you make calls and talk to people?

If your answer is yes to both of those then it is good enough.

For those times when your corporate meeting (that you can't leave) is running late so that you can tell your significant other not to leave dinner out because you are going to be home later than expected.

Or just to message for your friends with out the professor catching on.

I figure 99% of phones now have some sort of voice mail or answering machine. Leaving a message would be alot easier than tapping out messages on the keypad. I think phones are just getting lots of useless stuff added on to just keep people buying newer "better" ones.

That is a very valid point.

But at the same time we can liken the situation to a car

Both the Ford Focus and the SL500 will get you from point A to point B, but which car has the "WOW" factor. That's how I see it, you may see it differently and there isn't anything wrong with that.

Yeah sure, it rings and I can communicate with people like a regular phone. But the point is, the technology is out there and the US is very behind. Same goes for broadband and many other high tech goodies that us American's don't get. It's like saying you won't mind driving around in a Pinto or something. Sure other cars have more powerful engines, ac, radio etc. But hell I'll just stick with a POS car because it can still get me from one place to another.

Anyway, read the newest Forbes magazine, us Americans are stuck with such an old infrastructure and with the screwy government regulations we get none of the good stuff out there. You know in South Korea, citizens can get lines that are 4x the pipe of a T1 for around $39 a month? That sickens me... =P

Hmm, this point is valid as well, however, I believe it would be difficult to do either in both of the situations I've described with out leaving the room or being obnoxious.

Typing out messages with a numbered isn't tremendously more efficient either, but that?s why these next generation phones should and probably will incorporate this
