Here is my system. I would appreciate comments on all aspects of what I have chosen, but I do not know which Hard Drive to choose. Was going to go with the 300G Maxtor with 16mb cache, but I've read a lot of reviews of it dying after a certain amount of time. For me, reliability comes first with speed a VERY close second. Suggestions?

Also, should I wait for the new AMD socket or for any other upgrades that might be coming soon or is building this system in the next month okay?

AMD socket M2 is delay till mid-end of 2006.. so thats another year to go.. I would pick seagate hdd just for warranty.. sound doesn't bother me, unlike others that need silence to use a computer..

Expensive case also your CPU is a great bang for the buck you can get a 3000+ or 3200+ for cheaper and OC or just put some more money into it and get a X2 or Opteron for much increased performance

Dont wanna rain on your parade just trying to help :0

You can get the eVGA Geforce 7800GT with free SLI MB for $400.
That would save you over $150.

If you plan to OC, get the new S939 Opterons (check Monarch as they are way cheaper than Newegg right now). If you don't want to OC, use the savings to step up to an X2.

The rest of the items look very solid.

Definitely get the eVGA deal... and who knows, you might want to step up to a 512 gtx.

The Opteron 165 was so popular due to its OC potential that it's practically sold out everywhere.

Well OP I wouldn't really say monster, actually I am gonna flame a bit on that build!!!

Great Case!!
CPU=Why not go dual core?????
MOBO=Waste of money, SLI not worth it.
Video Card=XFX is not really too good (ok)

Well overall not too bad I guess, I just would have gone with a Dual core right now either the 3800+ or the 4400+.

all i can say is i think you should shop around because your prices are unbelievable expensive. you should be able to get all that for at least $100 cheaper. secondly, you can get a 7800gt at tiger direct for $300. your almost $400 for the gt is $50 short of a GTX. look around more

I understand shopping around. I just listed Newegg b/c they do have the best service and everyone seems to use them. When I actually purchase, I will take the time to look at the actual $'s.

I'm thinkig about dual core, but is the $~170 worth the extra cost? What apps take advatage of dual core?

XFX reviews on newegg are good. Cheaper than eVGA. And it's $50 less than the GTX since newegg charges me tax.

I would say get dual core:D

reason being is that you can Multi task <= Though many people say they don't ever multi task I hardly beleave them....

Ex: You are running anti virus, firewall, etc. programs in the system tray that many novice people over look<==I'm not calling anyone a novice:D

Basicly the whole computer will seem smoother:D
Or at least thats what I've seen from friends computers and reviews and from people on here:D
I'm going to get a Opteron 170 I think. or a 165:D

The only GAME that utilizes both cores so far is FEAR, at least to my knowledge. As for a better multitasker, it depends. If you game while listening to music, while compiling videos in the background, and have a 3D rendering project going on the side, DEFINITELY go with dual core. but for most other things, you won't really notice much of a difference over a 3700+. Unless you like doing stuff with 3000 windows open just for fun :)
