I'm currently looking into moving down to Virginia from Maryland (long story, Maryland sucks :) )

I found an apartment I really like:
http://www.apartments.com/summary.aspx?...chtype=1&srt1=0.76&srt2=0.86&srt3=0.88

There are two problems though.

1) They're wanting a copy of a bank statement for each of my accounts. They claim that it is needed to ensure that I don't make above a certain amount ($130,000) I'm kinda weary about providing this to be honest since my last 3 places never required it.

2) I'm not very familiar with that area at all. I'm hoping someone here might know what kind of neighborhood it's located in. It's about 5 miles from Fort Belvoir

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

EDIT: Forgot to mention

Here is a list of what's required along with the application:

govt id
last 3 consecutive pay stubs
latest bank statements
proof of any other income.

if 130,000 is their limit, I don't think it's section 8 housing.

Best plan of action would be to take a weekend trip down to see it or find some ATer nearby to check it out for you.

I can't think of why they would limit their crowds to the upper middle class and below ranges... but can't hurt to call and ask why.

sounds fishy. . .if they want know how much you make why are they asking for your bank statement? That only shows how much you have. They should be asking for your earnings statements from your employer or something showing your salary.

I used to live a little north of that area. How close to rt 1 are you? The wife and I were looking at townhouses around there and we saw some pretty bad elements. I recommend you drive around the area a little bit before you move in. Also, before you say Maryland sucks, VA property tax blows.

Ahh I'm sorry, I should have clarified. Here is a list of what's required along with the application:

govt id
last 3 consecutive pay stubs

proof of any other income.

Good question. I believe it's about .4 miles from route 1. It's right off of Sacramento Drive.

I just checked out the map and I HIGHLY recommend you take a look at the area first. The residential areas around that part of rt1 can be really dirty.

FWIW, I lived in the Hunting Towers, the big ass brick buildings right by the W Bridge.

Is that in Arlington?
I'd like to stay in the Alexandria/Arlington area if possible to be honest since I have to commute up to Silver Spring.

It's still Alexandria, just south of Olde Towne, Arlington is further north on the GW Parkway. Have you checked out the traffic situation in the area? I'm not sure what its like now but when I lived there last year the Wilson traffic was awful.

It's still awful but I get a transportation subsidy from work so metro rail is free for me. Plus I actually enjoy riding the rail since it gives me a chance to read and relax.

Is the apartment name Hunting Towers? I'm tryin to search for it and it's not coming up for me

thanks!

Well I showed the apt location to a coworker of mine and he said it's a questionable area. Im thinking it can't be as bad as my current location (Silver Spring, MD in the White Oak area)

This is frustrating the living crap out of me cause I can't find a decent place to live that's affordable.
