Because I don't feel that this case warrants calling the police, much less putting the woman in jail. Was it wrong? Yes. Was it stupid? Yes. Was it deserving of legal action? No. Something like this doesn't make someone a criminal in the spirit of the word, in my opinion, which is just that.

This woman is a piece of sh!t. She goes through life taking other people's property. This was not the only thing she's stolen, look at the other links that were posted. She deserves to be in jail or a cemetary. She's a parasite on society's ass.

A piece of white trash stole something that did not belong to her. If someone will go as far as stealing the steak you're about it eat, I wonder what else she'd steal?

I agree with the police. People need to learn to respect other people's property. She did not buy the steak, she had no right touching it. She's a piece of garbage that society should dispose of.

Why it shouldn't? Felony used to have the definition that a person has been harmed. Yes, a lot of other defintions but the premise is that it is a very serious and heinous act of crime. By making everything a Felony the Legal system has dumbed itself down to a poker game.

Usually felonies are if force or violence was involved, or if the item is valued more than $2k.

The BEST definition of a Felony is a crime in which you could spend more than 1 year in jail. I don't know what perverted or idiotic definitions that you and Dave have come up with. Let me say that you are BOTH wrong.

If you want a link I will get one.

Marshallj,

You always say there are a lot of young minds on this forum that they always want to state their opinions. It seems like you are doing the same.

Synergy, stop crying.

The difference is that someone who is younger will be less experienced and less knowledgeable. I'd rather hear the opinions of an experienced older person than some 15 year old kid. Personally, I have a hard time respecting someone who is not as smart or experienced. LIkewise, I wouldn't expect a supreme court judge to listen to what I have to say.

The average experience level of this forum is very low since such a high percentage of people on here are very young. That's all I'm going to say to you. Your opinion doesn't mean enough to me to waste any more time on this matter.

Now if someone decides to smoke pot or have unconventional sex, to me that's a victimless crime since they are not harming or taking away from anyone else. People like that shouldn't be sitting in jail, but people who steal should be.

Certainly not victimless. I'm not trying to say that she is somehow the victim of society or anything, but that I think this case was blown out of proportion.

If she's a habitual theif though, she should go to jail.

Experience does not necessarily give you knowledge. I mean here you are acting as if you are fifty, yet I still know more about the law than you do!

Okay, well I'm going to chime in here and say I hope your kids lose their way and end up getting into trouble. Then we'll see if they're 'piece of sh!t parasites who belong in jail or a cemetary. .

People change. The girl is 19 years old. I think you need to grow up more than anyone else here. You're fvcking ignorant, and its time somebody told you.

As for experienced older person, I think I have slightly more experience with the criminal justice system than you (hopefully) ever will.

Lets just say I've been in front of a judge more times than I can count on my fingers and leave it at that, shall we? If you're really interested, its a matter of public record (at least until age 18, I'm pretty sure my juvenile record is sealed).

Ok, so we have a case of the dumb defending the dumb. You're sticking up for this delinquent because you're a delinquent yourself. That gives your cause SO much credibility, lol

If by "old" you mean 27, then I'm old.

Let's see when you're 27 if you still get along with and hang out with high school kids. I don't, sorry. I have nothing in common with them and have more experience. My point of view has changed.

(and if you're older and STILL hang out with them, well, I feel sorry for you.)

It's all relative. I would not claim to have experience compared to a room full over people in their 30's, 40's or 50's, but compared to 15-22 year olds, yes, I have a lot more experience.

See if your point of view stays the same from now until 10 years from now. I know that if I was to talk to my former self 10 years ago, we wouldn't get along at all. Times have changed me.

That's one thing that never changes- I never take things too seriously.

You'd have to meet me to understand my sense of humor. It's pretty dry. Sometime's I'll make an off-color joke to people and one person will get it while the other person gets deeply offended. But since I'm sick in the head, I'll play with the offended person for a bit before I clue them in.

I can assure you that I wouldn't come here so much if I felt like it was a chore.

It sounds like she's a habitual theif, since they found $25,000 worth of stuff in her apartment.

As soon as I heard this story I knew she was a habitual theif, because only someone that dedicated would be brazen enough to steal a steak off a barbecue.

I'm not a delinquent anymore. I'm just stating that as a former delinquent and someone who has done more volunteer work with delinquent youth than probbably anyone else on this forum, I think I've got a little more knowledge when it comes to these matters than you will ever posess.

I'm not defending her actions. What she did was wrong, and she definately should have some punishment for her crime.

I just think that you're an ignorant a$$clown who thinks everyone who commits a crime should be thrown in the slammer for as long as possible. What you fail to realize is that:

1) Jails cost money, and they're not self sufficient. That money comes out of your pocket and mine.
2) Throwing an inexperienced criminal in jail will more often than not create an experienced criminal, not a reformed criminal.
3) Most crimes have underlying reason for occuring. Most offenders have mental illnesses that can be successfully treated, which is not only a more cost effective way of dealing with the matter but also a far more humane way.

I'm not saying that every person that commits a crime should be sent to a shrink instead of prison, I just think that the 'lock em up!' mentality has gotten way out of hand in this country, especially when dealing with people under the age of 21. I also doubt you would be so enthusiastic about locking her up and throwing away the key if she were your daughter.
