We can just make any country with oil in it watch MTV for 15 minutes a day. In a week they'll be so stupid that we can go in and pump it out without them ever knowing it;)

This has nothing to do with iraqi oil, it has a lot to do with Saddam Hussein needing to be taken out of power in Iraq. As a side effect of a war, our economy will improve which is good for everyone. As every good republican knows, if you want to improve the economy, start a war. Almost no one in the US cares about Saddam unless he would actually do something to cause us harm. We do care about our friends and families having good lives which has a lot to do with the state of our economy. So it really is that simple...

You'd think the Muslims would support the ouster of the greatest killer of Muslims the world has ever known. They must like being slaughtered if they continue to support the regime of that Psycho Killer. Of course if they don't value their own lives why should anybody else?
No that would probably be Christians.

Cuba, technically, is a Socialist state not Communist. Historically, Castro at some point has claimed to be a Communist but he likely did it for political/economic reasons (piss off US/get more cash from Moscow). If you want a better understanding of the difference read The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx/Friedrich Engels (its short enough even for those with limited attention spans and skills of comprehension).

The US has NO evidence of first strike use of bioweapons against the US. Virtually, all of the defectors claim Castro's emphasis has been on retaliatory strikes after US invasion (or threat thereof). While I do not support such programs I can understand his rationale . . . we're pretty big on revenge in America as well. Cuba has a state-of-the-art bioengineering program with a myriad of research/commercial applications. The reports released prior to Carter's visit to Cuba were meant to demonize Castro and blunt any positive press from the trip . . . in other words good old misinformation/distortion for political purposes. Such BS hurts our credibility but political hacks don't have such foresight.

There is very good evidence that SOMEONE used chemical weapons on northern Iraqi villages populated primarily by Kurds. If you search for info on Kurds/Iraq you will find several international reports with detailed information. If you toss in Iran you can make a case that Saddam WILL use such weapons. Then again you will also find several reports detailing Turkish offenses against Kurds. If you look some more you will find past and current offenses by the IDF against Palestinians. You don't have to look for terrorist attacks against Israel . . . our media widely distributes that information . . . justifiably so but certainly biased.

Hmm, I am so gonna get roasted for this:

Why don't the Republicans use some of the old contacts from the mid 80s (Reagan era) to talk to Saddam Hussein?

You are right.

Both Turkey and Iraq have offensive actions against curds going on. In one case it's ok (NATO partner), in one case it's not (and even incurred bombings during the Clinton administration - just to prove that I don't concur with either parties side in this "conflict).

Whatever floats someone's boat.

Why is there always a need to attack someone when another situation gets out of hand? Economy slump in the late 80s/ early 90s, The Monica Monologues :), and now a new economic slump.
It often seems to act as a welcome distraction.

Anyway, I think the whole situations is completely f***ed up beyond belief. Everyone plays their game, and a lot of people suffer.

It's a game to some but people suffer and die in real life. Go to CNN and try to learn what's going on in Afghanistan today. You can find a whole web area devoted to that country but they stopped updating it after the new government was installed. Apparently by some reports Afganistan is falling apart again. Where is this news on CNN?

My point? The U.S. media stops reporting the aftermath of our adventuring foreign policy, if it's bad. We never hear about the unending plight of Iraqi people. What about the Kosovo operation? Bosnia? If American citizens, who get their news from TV, knew the human cost to some of our actions they might not be so quick to applaud the use of force in every frickin' country we stick our noses into.
