This Hot Deal is dedicated to Gurck...

I bought the 1.5gb version for just under $100 a week or so ago and I love it, i'd be all over this otherwise 🙁

Big downside is that you can't sort songs by folder, there are other ways of skipping around but nothing really good.

It's a nice buy...would get it if I were in the market for a MP3 player. Speaking of Woot!: I'm having Woot-Off withdrawal and we're due for another run of it.

good price though.

Have you ever seen one in person? It's actually very sleek. A friend of mine has one of these, it's a pretty good player.

I like the wedge design as well -- fits well in your pocket with no unsightly bulges. 😉

No FM tuner, correct?

Does this hookup via USB2 or FireWire?

This can be used as a ghetto backup drive, right?

for the 1.5gb:

correct

usb2

i dont know

I might just buy this and sell my Karma. I find that I do not need 20 gigs and I would like a smaller player. Very tempting.

EDIT: Rossman, It says on their website "Drag & drop data and music files," but if it's anything like my Karma, you have to use the RIO Taxi software on both computers. Here is a link to the PCWorld review of the Carbon.

Sweet price....I got mine for $170 off the FS/T forums here several months back (only bought it to rip it apart for the 5GB Microdrive to use it in my camera though 😛)

What speed is the card? And will it work in any camera that accepts CF? I got a Canon S40

Be careful, I'm not sure if they've changed the drive inside, I've read reports of more recent units not being able to have the hard drive used in other devices...

The speed is sufficient, a few megabytes per second...slower than the fastest CF (flash memory) cards though. If they still have the same drive in there as when I got it, it will work with any camera that accepts CF Type II (thicker than normal CF), and I don't know if the S40 does or not. My Canon S1 IS does (of course).
