It's going to use NFC and MasterCard's PayPass system. Citi, MasterCard, First Data and Sprint are partners in an "open, mobile commerce solution." By 2014, 50 percent of smartphones in the US will be NFC-enabled, predicts Google. And of course, it's an open platform for merchants.
That said, Google working with carriers and OEMs to get NFC on every phone. "Suffice it to say, everyone's jumping on the bandwagon," in terms of their partners. "We'll move all future Android phones to the NFC standard." Non-NFC Android phones can still download and use Wallet, and they're looking at using NFC stickers for those phones. Regarding other platforms, like iPhone and Windows Phone, Google says they'll work with "anyone." Worst case? They can just put an NFC sticker on the back.
Hmmmmm we have those exact card readers on our vending machines at work. I never bothered to look if NFC is supported though.
well, it's not exactly new tech. mobil has their speedpass for quite some time now.
the new part is that it's now integrated into your phone.
No thanks. I'll stick with plastic and cash. Google would have to pay me lot of money to use this and get my purchase history . They already know too much about me. The don't need to know and sell my spending habits too.
