I unlocked my 1600xp with the unlocking kit. Now when bios is resetted, it's seen as an xp 1700+ (default settings are now 11x 133 fsb). BUT, I can't raise or lower the multiplier without a failed boot. I've unlocked it several times, and always the same response when I try to change the mult (fan goes on>> no beep/boot)... did I just change my 1600 to a 1700, or maybe my mobo/bios won't allow multiplier changes??

1600+ (palomino core) AGKGA
Volcano 7 HSF
Shuttle AK31a rev.3.1
Crucial pc2100

idle -full load cpu temps 39-45 degrees

I would say try it again, something must be wrong. Make sure you mod the correct bridges. Go slow and try to get it exactly right. Pretty small stuff eh?

ok, i rejoined the bridges again, and still no luck. the 1600+ is still reading as a 1700+, and i can't change the multiplier..
any ideas? has this happened to anyone else?

11X = all 5 signal circuits = LO, possibly grounded when you tried to close the L1 bridges.
If so, then the grounds would be "hard", ie, direct to a subsuface ground plane...and bios reset circuits cannot reset direct grounded LOs to HI.

Link to Multiplier Code and Circuits articles (others as well) to understand this issue. Suggest you clean the L1 closing mod very carefully, get all conductive material out of pits. Then try without closing, keep cleaning till you get default 10.5X/1600. Then reclose the L1s again, but refill pits with insulating material first.
