my computer used to be worse than that. left it closed up and running 24/7 for about half a year before i opened it up and 1 blow blew out huge chunks of dust.

Thats nothing. I can barely see any of my components, when I takeoff the side it looks like my computer looks like it is made of dust components :Q

I am sure that is why my machine doesn't run so good.... oh well, it is 4 years old.

thats nothing. the static electricity from inside my computer caused a big pile of dust to come alive, which bites my hand every time i open the case.

One time I had a set up with fans only blowing to the outside and none in and got hardly any dust in there. Not good really for it, but never locked up or anything and case temps were in the low 40's and CPU temps were mid 50's (not on die temp)

I ran seti on it for like 50 hours and temps stay at 120*. Is that normal? It may also have been his Windows ME install was crapping out. I wiped it out and installed XP.

Dayum, that's disgusting.

Reading everyone's comments (i.e. "my PC is 10X filthier than that!) made me realize something.

I am extremely anal. :Q Felix Unger personified. I open up all my cases about every two months and vacuum them out. It takes all of 10 minutes to do each one; unhook wires, open case, vacuum out all grills/PS/HSF/cards/corners, close case, rehook wires. Done.

To me, a light-gray coating of dust on the cards is filthy.

That looks like the exact same HSF I have on my server (1GHz TBird "B")

Omg, how about buying a can of compressed air for $5.00 at your local Comp USA and avoiding that mess. Hell, you can probably find a can for cheaper in the buy/sell/trade forum.

Lets just say I have tumbleweeds blowing across the inside of the case. It is a desert in there.

OK, as per my earlier post, I opened up my computer and it didn't look too bad. I pulled the fan off of my MC462 and the damn thing was half plugged with dust and crud. I vacuumed and blew all the crap out and my CPU temp went down 5C.

I built a computer in Jan 2001 and 6 moonths later, I wondered why the temps were at like 150+ for the cpu yet 95 or so for tyhe case. I opened up the case and looked at the HSF and saw that 1 of the 2 fans had clogged up and stopped working and the other was going at like 25 RPM. This was for a 1 GHz Slot Athlon with the stock HSF. I wised up and tossed that sumbitch and put a VOS32 on the CPU.

AAarrgghhhhh..............I just got a sudden urge to pop the side panel off my rig and clean the heatsink!

D@mn! Me too!

I need some compressed air though, stupid Alpha Pal 6035. Dust packs in there so tight its dirt by the time I knock it out.
