uh, he's not trying to steal your identity, he's trying to scam you for the car.

This is the second guy trying this approach ...
I am 100% sure that they are not trying to go for the car ... otherwise, they would try to send me a fake check or something.

sigh, you must be very young or naive to selling high dollar items, because this is a typical approach to scamming you for the car. google it.

He is trying to send you a fake check. You cash it and send him back the difference plus the car, later the check is found to be no good and you are royally screwed.

So, you didn't understand the part where he needs your name address to send the check to???

Edit: I should also mention that if I wanted to steal someone's identity, it would be easier to use the phone book and randomly choose someone. Full name, address, zip, phone number are all in the phone book (or online via smart pages). If that is all that was needed, we would all be in trouble.

one more thing, the info he is asking for is already public information - telephone search, so I am 100% positive he is not trying to steal your identity.

If he was stealing your identity, he would need a whole lot more info then he asked for...

lol at update. You are still playing the identity theft angle. What makes you think he's going to give you accurate info? Just drop it already. Delete any email that uses bad grammar or states they are using some middleman help the transaction, and for the love of God, delete any from out of country.

Here is a thought.....

If you were to sell a car to a scammer, could you report it to the ins. company/police as stolen and get paid for it that way?

junker=profit??????

This is indeed what he is doing. I watched judge judy? kind of show where this boy sold his dirt bike or something for 2000$ to a guy in nigeria, who had an agent out of new york. THe guy paid him 5000$ and had him wire the extra $3000 to a western union account. The kid had his mom cash the check, sent the money the same day, check bounced, mom out $3000 dollars, sues kid on tv show for the money.

Judge asked, HOW DUMB ARE YOU! to both of them. Indeed, any one who would fall for these things should be smacked until they are smarter.. or something, shot?
