Oooh, that's not good. First thing I was thinking when watching the video was someone was going to come along and plow into him.

In the first 10 seconds it appears like he is hurtling down an icy road at over 80mph.

After watching a few times, I realized it was just a combination of a crappy microphone and probably worn out shocks. I'm guessing he wasn't going over 70mph. Anyways, that really sucks.

No, my comment was intended to reason why he lost control of his car originally.... Then I said "Anyways, that really sucks."

holy shit. i would not be trying to stand up after that

Agreed. Driver of the other car is an idiot for attempting to help the guy up. Last thing you should do for someone who has suffered a back or neck injury is to move them until their body has been completely stabilized (i.e., backboard)

We witnessed somebody get hit right in front of us on ice a few years back. That vid brought it right back.
Big multi car and truck crash, and we ended up in the middle of it unscathed.
The young lady in front of us about 30 feet away got out like she was going back to help. I said she is going to get hit, and about 15 seconds later this car comes sliding around, past us, and bounced her off the back of her car and the guardrail.
Compound leg fracture, probably broke both legs.

Back and neck? His legs were most likely crushed.

Road didn't look bad to me. Maybe I'm just used to that. Everyone does the speed limit, plus, around here when it's like that. STAY OFF THE SHOULDER! :)

looked like a two lane road but only the middle was plowed/clear of snow. Guy was doing ok unit he caught up with traffic and tried to drive through the snow lane.

dude, there was probably very little of him that wans't hurt. Looked to me that the first point of impact was the small of his back, but who cares. Guy was maimed plain and simple.

FWIW - it goes without saying that if someone's legs are crushed, you shouldn't try to stand them up either.

That camera and/or the compression doesnt have the resolution to show what could be significant ice coverage. Try driving in Western Canada in the winter. Just because the pavement looks 'black/clear' doesnt mean its not slippery as shit. I'll show you white knuckled driving. :D

You can be rolling along nice a smooth, and all it takes is a little bump on some ice to send you out of control.

And yes, the first thing I thought when he got out to look at his front end was "thats not safe".
