Reddit's a pretty shit site anyway. It's a bunch of 4channers that think they're too sophisticated for 4chan. I browse, and seldom interact. Once 3rd party clients are done, I'll be done on my phone, and when they kill old.reddit, I'll be out completely.
I've never liked the format. I much prefer a threaded layout like a traditional forum.

This is simply not true for alot of the subreddits. there are lots of useful sub reddits out there for all sorts of various topics that I couldn't possibly find here or other old forums. Maybe on some of the general topics you may be accurate but i never visit those.

Reddit is a useful site .... I go directly to SUB-Reddit's from search engines or links all the time. (as previously mentioned)

However it's extremely rare that I'll just go to Reddit and start randomly poking around ... I go, I get the specific information I came for (or not) and then I leave.

I VERY rarely post at all there and when I do it will usually be a quick "tech" question/answer.

Yes, that's what kept me out of it so long. I also think the old.reddit.com layout is ugly and prefer the newer one (sacrilege to the older users, I know).

This is how I use it. Although I generally find ANY forum or stackexchange that has overlapping information to be much better and easier to read.

I just hate the format, find it exhausting to follow more than one or two branches of conversation. Everyone is posting for the likes, and there is little sense of community there. I really like that on forums you get to have continuous interactions with the same people. I know some subs have that, but it doesn't seem to be the norm in my (very limited) experience with it.

Now I really don't get the people talking/debating on FB and comment pages, those make reddit seem like a dream.

Prospective new users come here and read posts about how the NY Giants are going to win everything in 2023 and then they navigate away. It really drains our credibility.

You heard it here ... the NY Giants are NOT winning the SB this upcoming season. ;)

(alright... bring on the flood of new posters!)

I don't get the reddit hate. It's incredibly useful due to sheer userbase and knowledge. I can ask any questions + 'reddit' in google and I can get some real 'pulse of the people' thoughts on it.

which is how you have to search, because reddit's own search sucks so much haha

it'll be interesting to see what the effect is of all the major subreddits starting a blackout on 6/12 in response to reddit trying to monetize more and breaking a bunch of 3rd party apps in the process

I'm convinced that Reddit will disable the ability to turn off subreddits and/or disable posting between now and the 12th. Or maybe they will just ban any mod that goes through with it.

Yup you nailed it.

Reddit does suck for following things:

- Easy to be downvoted if you go against the grain of the current popular opinion.

- I work with UX designers. Upvote system is basically popularity contest and it's so cringey when factually wrong things get upvoted because it sounds good to the general reddit demographic.

when they "found" the wrong boston bomber and then proclaimed "we did it, reddit!", i think it was the birth of the word cringe

when you think about how much free labor reddit has gotten in the form of mods, and yet has still not turned a profit, it's kind of mind boggling
