He must have seen the door before, but probably decided to test how fast it would open if he charged at it. That's why he was waiting out until the hall cleared - so that he could pull off his highly scientific experiment.

But shattering the glass door... that takes a very thick skull.

Me thinks there is something more to this than meets the eye. He stops in front of the door for the longest time to arrange some documents then out of nowhere starts running for the door. It looks like he's trying to escape or run away from someone.

Just before hitting the glass you can see he lowers his head like he knows that he's going to plow into it.

I think pauleny might be onto something. Maybe this was his first time seeing an automatic door and he wanted to test his theory that the doors were controlled by a human watching the scene on a camera or something, and was trying to fake the human door operator out? That's all i can think of.
