not today...

I'm korean and i have nothing against japanese whatsoever. In fact, I really like their culture and sushi is actually my favorite food lol

a friend of mine has a japanese bf (she's korean)

and both countries have some sort of friendly competition going on (samsung vs sony, korean soccer team vs japan soccer team, animation, movies, etc etc)
I don't know about that. I'm Chinese, not Korean, but my anyone in my family who lived through World War II and the generation following them both have a deeply ingrained dislike of the Japanese. Could be that this particular community of Koreans retains that dislike more strongly than the general population. At least that seems like the most plausible explanation so far.

Staring in Korea in China is normal as far as I know, we here in the US dont like it. It makes us feel uncomfortable...who cares really....

How can you tell that it is young Korean guys staring you down?? Does that guy staring you down have a t-shirt that says "I'm Korean" or do you have psychic/telepathic abiliites or something?? QUIT being a racist!

Bah, the stares mean nothing. Older generations like to stare with no reservation. They are just curious about what goes on. If you were to sit down with a bag in a park, asian people will just watch you the entire time because of curiosity. It means nothing. It is annoying though.

Japanese people stare too....in fact everyone does. Koreans stare for no good reason....I'll give you that (I'm Korean myself)...but those are the ones who aren't Americanized. Those Koreans think they own the street they walk on until someone kicks their a$$. If people stare at you...stare back....no big deal. NYC ....no one stares...I've been there numerous times over the past 6 years and people on the street don't really even know you're there. They're all in their own little world. If you're getting stares maybe you're wearing something or you look significantly different from the "norm" that makes people stare.

I can easily tell by their fashion and physical features. If you only knew me, you'd find me as most liberal and open minded. I don't even know if they are 'staring me down' as you say, whatever the hell that means. All I'm saying is that in general, they just look at me and frankly, in my humble opinion they look quite pissed for no particular reason. I'll have you know that I openly believe in stereotypes as there is a good hint of truth in it, but I am not a racist by FAR. You should also calm the hell down.

Why the hell should current generation Japanese apologize for something of ancient past? That I do not understand. Same goes with the folks in Japan who still are b!tching about the way WW2 ended. It's a freakin WAR, craziness. It's done and over. God damnit, GET OVER IT.

It seems that 80% of japanese restaurants are opened by koreans around here. If they hate Japan so much, why not just open a korean restaurant?

my experience is that people either make intense eye contact or avoid it at all costs, especially in cities. i dont know that they are looking at you, or that they just have the 1000 yard stare that seems to come with living in a city for too long.

LOL most Japanese restaurants I go to are either Korean or Chinese owned. They speak Cantonese to us sometimes.

for your reference, I am one of those that will stare at the japs and go piss off. who give a damn about how the ww2 end? you people started it first. It's a freaking WAR started by the Japs. I's done and over, where the fvck is the apology?

all you japs want is to "GET OVER IT"? this pretty much explains your ignorance. don't ask why when we chinese and korean stare at you next time.

DaWhim, quite a few Japs also stare too.

The ones who probably owe the apology are either DEAD or close to it and still have too much pride left in them to apologize. Not much a younger generation can help on. Also a good majority of the ones who survived the war have committed suicide from embarrassment right before or when they got home.

That's right, I am completely ignorant about the war. Why? Because I wasn't even born then. Were you? It's history and wasn't even part of our generation unless you're 70 something years old and actually fought in the war. While I do feel sorry for the victims on all parties, I personally would like all this nonsense to end as there are new things we all have to move on to.

Also do you actually believe all of the info found in history books? We don't know what REALLY happened do we? I sure as hell don't and don't want to bother reading it, as it is in fact..HISTORY. Hate me all you want but don't ask me for return hatred. You want a free stick of PC100 ram? lol

I've noticed this since the very beginning of time. Whenever my girlfriend or I walk down the street and cross ANY asian man, woman, kid etc., they ALL look right into our eyes and stare. My girlfriend noticed this too and mentioned it to me and I have to totally agree. Sometimes they look downright PISSED off. The ones that do that are mostly younger Korean guys. What the hell is wrong with these people? While I too am asian, I don't necessarily try hard and stare at anyone. Anyone care to explain this phenomenon?

Well that depends....... are you ugly? 😛

wow after i read you were japaneese i wonder if DaWhim was gonna say anything... and i scroll down and look WHO I SEE...

anyways.. many diffrent people stare.. on the subway, bus anywhere people stare. just curious people i guess.. or maybe you two are good looking lol
