From what I can tell, that looks pretty standard. Incredibly difficult, but that's how they refuel mid-air. You're right, the angle makes it look weird.

It is b/c of the position of the rotor, if the rotor was rotated 45 more degrees, it would appear to be on top of the tail, and everything would look fine, unless I am misinterpeting the pic.

The best description of midair refuelling I ever heard was in a book by an ex-RAF Phantom pilot - he describes it as "Like taking a running f**k at a rolling doughnut."

Very succinct description I thought.

That plane must not need a lot of fuel because that chopper can't possibly hold much of it.

Oh man, that's the funniest thing I've read all week!

I'm actually laughing aloud.

lol.

What's the slowest speed one of those tankers can fly at and still stay stable and airborn?

Seems to me that chopper would have to be going full tilt to keep up.

i think a 130 will stall at roughly 100kts afaik (depending on weight, environment, wind, configuration etc). No problem at all.

Think about a tanker truck. Then think about a car refueling. Now thing about the picture. Ouch, my brain hurts. 🙁
