I just got hooked into the anandtech proxy a couple minutes ago, i signed up for the team yesterday. -- only had a week of work to bring with me...

I have another big blue box (18CPU) that i got going but it is 64bit and it only does 6Kkeys/Sec using all avail CPU. Obviously it could use better core.

Man thats pretty bad, what kind of CPU's are they? What OS? Im sure if they are any CPU made in the last 8 or so years it can do a lot better than 6KKeys/Sec.

Yeah - i'll say it should go a little faster....
it can't autodetect the CPU, so it selects allitnil and projects that it will take over a day to do 24 Work units.

I would expect 3-4M/CPU

Train, Only one problem with your theory. That was an article that came out last year. Check their stats for the last date they did any work and you'll see what I mean.

Anyways, dumbredneck, have you tried KLinux on that box of yours? Im pretty sure it will recognize all the CPU's, and get a killer keyrate.

Is your S80 box being used for anything?
Was it just sitting idle, until you tried running RC5?
Does the machine have a network card in it?

Dang it Train, you beat me to the punch!
The S80 has different processors than what is compiled into the Klinux kernel.

What OS is it running dumbredneck?
What client are you using now?

That's a lot of questions, but we'll get it figured out, and up and running.

BTW, ya know what's kind of cool, IBM has a &quot;Buy Now&quot; button for that bad boy, it goes into your &quot;Shopping Basket&quot; just like buying a floppy drive from Onvia or something. I put in three just for grins, but canceled my order when I was unable to use my $400,000 off of $1,200,000 coupon for new customers. ;)

We all are doing about 40,000,000 block's a day
SDSC's terraflop SP has been doing about 200,000 a day
That means we all together posses about 200 of those SP's of calculating power on RC5 only.

IBM needs to get something realy amasing together if they want to get close to our brutal calculation force!

Geez KW didn't mean to get you all excited... It's running Aix 4.3.3
I don't think the guys at the office will be cool with me putting linux on it, Although maybe dual boot and do nights and weekends... it really runs at about 5% average load.

I get a decent keyrate on the 604e power PC processors in the SP, but not these. What different cores should i try?? not to be a dumb redneck, but ...

heh, ever hear of the USA Enviromental Protection Agency? Or the USA Department of Energy? both of those organizations have VERY large super computers made by IBM, both of which are in the top 10 most powerful computers in the world.

Hmmm..Are you running the AIX dnet client?

It says it's not SMP capable, but to manually start up a client for each CPU.
I'm sure you could just use the same installation, one folder, one .exe, just use the same command you used to start the first client.
Once for each CPU.
The other dnet clients should use the same config and .log file as the first client.

In other words, do the same thing you did to start the first, only 16 times. :cool:

After messing with my PowerBook today, I can tell you that there's definately a special core for the 604e CPUs. However, I don't know the name of it, nor if the AIX client has them. Unfortunately, I am willing to bet that because of your low scores, the odds are good that it doesn't.:(

Humm, I take back some of the things I said. I just checked Dnet's documentation, and I am partly wrong. The latest AIX 4.1 client(460) does indeed have the new 604e core.

There is a 604e core, the 604e processors run swell, Approx 1M/Sec at 332Mhz. It also detects and spawns a cruncher for each CPU. This box has the new 64Bit IBM NON powerPC Cpus. How can i try other cores?? here is the output when it cranks up:

there should be a config menu, try running it with the option -config (not familiar with that OS though) but you should get a nice menu where you can select the cores and other congfig options.

I'm not sure what exactly the *nix command line parameters are but i think theres some thing like
Run dnetc -benchmark

and that benchmarks with all the cores, reporting the results.
