We need full time positioned people manning the security checkpoints of each terminal at our airports that our well paid and well trained. From what I understand, there's a very high turnover rate for this position and they only get paid a little over minimum wage and some are just part timers. I travel alot and have been to almost every major city airport and even more smaller ones and I'm totally amazed to what I see. I see many checkpoints with elderly people and what looks like high-school kids screening the passengers and I always wonder how safe I was when i jumped on a plane. If you think about it,this is someting that should have been done a long time ago. It's time that these airlines/airports take this issue seriously and they certainly can afford it and its sad that it takes a disaster to change things if this does at all change, as far as this issue goes. Just a note,I'm not saying that all these security screening people are doing a bad job or that this would have changed things but I would much rather see people that lool like "state cops" w/sidearms and that are very highly trained doing the passenger screening. I've always felt that way and not just now.

well, they didn't exactly smuggled assault rifles onto airplanes. and it is really really hard to find box cutter in a carry=on luggage thingy.

Really although you're correct MoM0 is too. You can't prevent box cutters getting on. The only thing to do about them really is to have sky marshalls on the plane and make sure the pilots always keep their cabins locked. Two sky marshalls with low caliber hollow points (so that the bullet is even less likely to pierce plane's skin) would have made quick work of 3-5 knife-wielding hijackers. Very quick work indeed.

it's possible they brought in poly carbonite knives in the planes, those wouldnt be picked up in metal detectors.. they were speculating that at my local tv station with a counter-terrorist expert (i think)
