Nothing but problems with this thing. My computer crashes and I can't turn it off even with the power button on the case. I've never seen that before. I can reset it but I can turn it off when it freezes. I upgraded three days ago to asus culs2 and pentium 800mhz processor. The cpu is set in the bios as follows:
Cpu Internal fequency 800
Frequency multiple 6.0
sdram/pci fequency 133:133:33
sdram/pci ratio 133:133:33
cpu vcore 1.70

When I restart after crashing it goes right to the bios with the error message that my cpu is incorrectly setup in the bios. If these settings are wrong will someone please tell what the right ones are.

Someone please help me this motherboard is starting to look like something that should be thrown out the window.

So is mine. It's brand new. With just the CPU, RAM, and monitor connected to the onboard video, it won't even post. Got any suggestions?

Got the same problem here. Crashes on shutdown or just reboots instead. Goes into bios telling me that the cpu is incorrectly setup. Anyone got clues? Running Win2k here and the BIOS version is 1003.

Is that a 800eb or 800e? And man, 3 people in a row are having problems with that board. I just find that odd, seeing as so many people here love that board.

256mb of pc133 cas 3. Innovation ram. In BIOS, I have it set to 333. The processor is 733EB/133fsb. Not overclocked. I'm wondering if that question was directed towards everyone here hehe. I have a 3com pci officeconnect NIC in there. The video card is a Maxtrox G450 Dual Head. BJ Live! was causing problems earlier so I ripped that out. Still problems persist!

Memory is 256mgs pc 133 siemans. I would update the bios but I can get the floppy drive to work. I read a lot of good things about this board thats why i bought it but I'm not so sure now. I have named my new system (piece of sh**t).

Is your ram all single or double sided exclusively? I'll also agree with bonkers.....update the bios if at all possible.....

Hey Lil, you have SB Live installed? Does the floppy controller have an ! next to it in the device manager? I solved that issue by pulling the BJ Live outta there. Try it if that's the case.

Oh yea, I think Asus.com also has a Windows version of the Bios updater so try that instead of booting off a floppy. I'm not sure how it'll work though. I d/led it but haven't tried it. You go first LOL

Thats the strange thing. There is no hardware conflict. No ! next to the floppy drive or the controller. The computer says I have a floppy drive and that is it working. When I put a floppy disk in it the drive turns the light comes on and a few seconds later it says please instert a disk is drive a. I have tried several disc and three different floppy drive serval cables and nothing the same thing.

maybe you have the ribbon cable backwards or flipped to the wrong side. some floppy drives have interfaces where the ribbon connects the other way around. Red usually goes to the pwr side but some don't.

Prolly have more luck at cusl2.com forums .. they've seen most problems, and prolly already hava solution .. v. helpful .. user's guide here might help.

My 74-yr-old father-in-law built a (overclocked) system from scratch .. by himself .. based on this board .. his first-ever build (world's oldest overclocker). If he can do it ..

you should check this site
http://www.cusl2.com
they have many resources and knowledgeable folks to help you.
Did you install the the Asus 815 chipset drivers from the CD which came with the motherboard? If that doesn't help try putting your memory into a different slot. My cusl2 doesn't have any problems with 1x128 of mushkin 2sided and 1x128 of infineon(siemens) 1sided in slots 1 and 2 but I haven't tried slot 3. Soundblaster cards also often cause problems as does legacy USB support. Disable the legacy USB support in the bios and if you're using a SB card try it in slot 2 with a reserved IRQ in the bios. Also disable sound blaster 16 emulation in windows, you won't have sound with dos games but may prevent conflicts. Could be that you got stuck with a bunk board...it does happen. If so send it back, most vendors with exchange it but you might have to pay for part of the shipping(a scam since they sent a bad product) but unfortunately there is little you can do about it. Good luck

As soon as you finish installing the OS, make sure you install the Chipset inf Drivers.

ATA Drivers are optional....they make a large increase in performance, but if you are going to use CDRWs, I suggest avoiding them for the time being.

You have an SBLive? Then you need to do the following, otherwise Win98 won't restart/shutdown properly:

Enable LPT Interrupt Sharing in the Creative SB16 Emulation Device in the device manager.

Disable the Creative SB16 Emulation in the device manager (optional).

Set IRQ 5 Reserved to Yes in PCI/PNP Resource Exclusion list in the BIOS.

Disable Legacy USB in the BIOS.

If you are not going to use the 2nd serial port, disable that in the BIOS to free up an IRQ.

If you are using large size DIMMs (256MB) or using all 3 DIMM slots at 133MHz, set SDRAM Data Driving Mode to Strong in the BIOS.

There's a Windows flash utility on asus's website. You might want to check that out. Make sure to d/l both the .bin file and the .exe file.

Oops....didn't see your post about Win2K.

Disregard the items for Creative SB16 Emulation devices. The rest still applies.

The Windows flash utility for ASUS motherboards is available here.
