This Antec PSU is a joke

I've heard some bad things regarding the consistency of the rails (particularly the 5V) on the Smartpower line. TruePower, on the other hand, is supposedly rock solid.

Well, it's probably better than not having any power supply at all, right? 😛

Antec must have really changed, or you just got a bad PSU. I have a lot of Antec cases with their cheap antec PSU's in them, and i havent had any problems (knock on wood). Now AOpen, thats a different story...

is your system unstable? Are you sure those readings are accurate? Like you measured with a voltometer? (sp?)

I have a 400w smartpower and the rails are a little low.
The machine is stable though.

As for the 3.3+ rail, remember that DDR is rated at about 2.7 volts so 2.86v is good. If you feed it 3.3v it will likely fry. Whats the BIOS say?

I'll bet your stable.

Ignore SiSoft Sandra. It's not a reliable substitute for a voltmeter, a thermometer, or much of anything else.

sandra sucks for voltages and stuff if u don't have a voltimeter try "mbm5" works well for me.

Even BIOS readings / MBM readings arent very accurate. Mine reports 11.25 on the 12V line, but it is actually like 11.97V when I check it with a multimeter.

My true Power 380W seems to be a really good one. On all the rails, it gets really close to exact. I do n't remember which rails or what numbers but one of the three had a .999 ending which also changed to .99X periodically so it was almost on the dot. I think the mobo may not even display the whole number even if it is accurate because the motherboard can report accuracy to its own extent as well. Sorry, I don't remember the other rails but I thi nk I got lucky and got a cream of the crop PSU by chance.

I disagree, I believe it's this thread that's a joke, or a troll 😉

Well, I was just saying what I had heard... I haven't had any personal experience with those power supplies, but the 5V rail was the common complaint ('nitpick' actually) in some of the reviews I had read. Just what I've heard though...

8rda/8rda+'s report the VDIMM not the 3.3v. At least as far as I've seen.

-12V AFAIK is not used in modern systems (same goes for -5V).
