d--n this xp-1700 is thin in comparison to the last 500 i installed. i now understand why the coppershim and rubber baby buggy bumpers are needed! this heatsink is the closest thing to a toyota radiator i've seen. can anybody define what a pinhead of thermal grease is i know it can't touch anything other than the blue/green (which is that little square in the middle of the cpu, right?) lmk, jer

Follow the instructions for whatever thermal compound you will use. I believe for Artic Silver the right amount is 1/2 a grain of white rice, size wise that is. Spead very thin over top of core and none on the chip surface, what the core is on, the PCP.

you DO NOT need a shim.

anyway: 1/2 grain of rice is good, smear it with a credit card or something hard and perfectly flat.
