I don't want anything fancy, I can put a Riva TNT2 Ultra and another 128MB PC100 in this system that I already have. This will be used in a LAN with another K6-2 500 system for when my friends come over they can play CS LAN vs each other.

EDIT: Don't tell me it's too slow, because it's not. Also, I want a cheap Premade because I don't have the time to order every part from PriceWatch. If it was my main system, that would be different.

i would stay away from the k6-2 series unless its the k6-2+ or the k6-3. There is a huge performance gap between those. You should be able to get a comprable speed k6-3 for like $20-30 more i would think

I would not buy a new K6 of any kind now. Socket 7 is dead. A comparable Celeron won't cost you much more at all, and it'll be faster and have a far better upgrade path.

Ok, let me make it make a little more sense 🙂

First off, I don't give a damn about the performance, because I'm not going to be using it. 2nd off, the K6-2 500 system I have is very simlilar to this one, and it cranks out 60 fps at 800x600x16, which is plenty adequate for my friends. I just wanted to know if it looked like a quality premade, and if the price was good.

If you don't want something that is "fast", then why would you put a TNT2 Ultra in it and another stick of 128MB ram?

I would go with a duron, or Pentium 3 setup.

You guys don't understand...I swear you are all illeterate, or too lazy to read my post. I already own the damn Riva TNT2 Ultra and the 128MB PC100! They are sitting in my comp drawer rotting! Why wouldn't I put them in it? You think I have 400 bucks sitting around? Of course not..my budget is like 200 bucks..

Obviously I can't afford a Duron system or P3 system and if I could It'd be insane to spend that kind of money some something that's only going to be used maybe once every weekend.

Hi, I have read all of your posts and will be the first one to say that a K6-2 500 is more than enough for CS. An area of concern is the name brand factor. Do you know the brand of the Hard Drive, Motherboard etc? Hopefully they are not of the same calibur of PC-Chips.

If the brand names are there, I'd say go for it. Oh, also be sure the motherboard has an AGP slot... I don't know a lot about these Integrated Video Boards for the K6-x series, but they may not have an AGP slot.

The HD is a 20GB and the mobo is a Gigabyte GA-5Ax (used to own one..not bad).

I found a Celeron 466 system with only 32mb for 300 bucks, no monitor. It has a MSI board with 1x agp.
