I read the summary and thought Tom's Hardware Guide bought the rights to HW3? I was like WTF until I read the link. THQ not THG. Gave me a good laugh.

I would buy a Homeworld 3. A space combat game set in HW universe would be even better :)

I miss my Freespace 2...

Easily one of the best games of all time.

I'd like to see a new Star Wars space flight sim. I Think modern graphics would really do a lot to immerse you better in any of these universes. Freespace 3 would be even better but it certainly won't be happening.

HW 1 was amazing.. I never finished HW2 though. Between the mission timer and the pointless missions, I think the 'save the mining fleet' mission was the last mission I attempted before uninstalling.

Given the money relic has made THQ with the COH and DOW series, this doesn't really surprise me; even less so given an already established HW fanbase.

Whats cool about HW was that, beause the eviroments were just picutres, they could devote all of their rendering power to the ships.

The ship models were incredibly detailed. It still surprises me today how good they look.

Though, they need customization.I rather my ships not look all yellow and blue.

Hell Yes. I used to play a ton of Xwing v Tie Fighter, and a bit of XWing alliance. This was like nine years ago when I used to game on a 56k. I remember when everyone used to play on MSN Zone and we had tournys every month. I miss those days... :/

EDIT: wooot, found my old XVT stats!
http://www.battlestats.com/pla...=442&type=War&game=xvt

Kills/S-Kills/Deaths: 16,027 / 5,022 / 11,932 (1.55 KD Ratio)
Player Wins / Losses: 1,665 / 532 (3.13 P W/L Ratio)
Game Wins / Losses: 641 / 122 (5.25 G W/L Ratio)

I was going to make a smart ass comment but I'll keep it to myself.

It will suffice to say: They can.

Remember that THQ owns Relic and Relic's first game was Homeworld. I have got to believe that this is good news for us Homeworld fans since Relic would have a interest in ensuring the long term success of series.

I'd like to see one with physics driving the damage system. Not just hitting a ship enough until it reaches 0% and blows up, but gouging holes into it until it's just a floating husk or you hit their ammunition or power reactor and then you get a big explosion.

Nice, i tried to get a hold of homeworld 1 but play.com seem to be sold out of the 3 for £10 deal homeworld's. I played the 2nd one and liked it, that was a challenging game, its easy when you know how but on first play through it was a constant struggle.

I think this month's GFW listed Freespace 2 as freeware now.

I just checked that out yesterday. Battle Star Galactica: Flight Commander v 0.3.8, I think. It was meh. The GUI was fine, the models seemed pretty good, but the scripting was goofy and the game crashed to desktop frequently.

The voice acting alone made me cringe, though. The intro female voice was fine, but the other voices sounded like kids trying to do different accents. I could have looked past the voice acting if the game didn't crash.

Sigh. I had higher hopes for it.

This could be interesting. I never actually played Homeworld but my brother got it when it came out. It's another game on my long list that I need to get around to.

if by Freespace style they mean flying with a mouse like a homo then I'll pass.

You're thinking of Freelancer, not Freespace.

To the best of my knowledge, Freespace 2 is not freeware or abandonware yet. The source code was released, however, the game itself is still proprietary.
