Thinnest 140mm case fan?

I recently bought a Antec 100 case for AsRock P67 Extreme4 board. The system runs fine, except that the top 140mm fan keeps giving an annoying "tack-tack-tack-tack-tack" noise.

After checking the system around, I suspect it is because the motherboard's 8-pin power connector is too close to the top fan. The powersupply's 8-pin connector has a little handle that when pushed, you can pull the connector out.

When the top fan is spinning, I suspect the fan hits the handle, thus causing the 'tack-tack-tack' noise.

Now, is there any way to solve this problem? The powersupply is OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W.

Will another powersupply's have a smaller 'handle' on the 8 pin connector? Or, is there a 140mm fan that is less than 25mm deep? (the 140mm fan that comes with the Antec case is 25mm deep).

Now, I am just keeping the top 140mm fan turned off (relying on a side Antec 120mm fan and the powersupply fan, the back fan is occupied by Antec's Kueler 620.)

Will just these two fans enough for 2500k (no o/c) and a Asus 560Ti? What if I o/c my 2500k? Do I need the 140mm top fan running?

Thanks for any advices.

The retaining lock on my motherboard's ATX12V connector faces away from the fans on top, not towards it.

What motherboard do you have? Can you post a picture of the area of the board in question? If anything here is touching the fan, it ought to be more of a issue of how you routed that wiring than any part of the connector itself.

You're right -- you can barely see it, but the connector keying is reversed (at least from mine it is). I would not have expected that -- I wonder if it has something to do with the proximity to that heat pipe bend?

I've got a pair of the stock CM fans for the 690 directly above this in mine, and I clear the connector by about 1/2" (I've also got a sight offset from mounting the fans with rubber screws adding to it), and I think that these are 25mm. Mabye a 20mm fan will fix this for you. A lot cheaper than a bigger case...

The other thing that could be adding to this is sideways axial play in the fan rotor -- if you have it mounted horizontally to draw air up and out the case, the rotor is going to drop down a little to the outward end of its play. That might be what's causing the rubbing.

OK. I fixed the problem (may be only temporarily) by pushing the top fan from the bottom a bit upwards. So far, after a few hours running, there is no more 'tack-tack-tack-tack-tack' sound.

Thanks for the advices. If the 'tack-tack-tack' sound appears soon again, guess I will try replacing with a 20mm thick fan.

I have a similar problem with an Antec 300 case, and a DFI X48 T2R LP mobo, with a Q6600 and a Tuniq Tower 120. The Tuniq butts right up against the top 140mm fan, and sometimes there is some minor interference noise.

Anyways, how do you like the Antec 100? Does it indeed have a 3.5" floppy bay? It looks like it from the pictures, but they don't mention it in the specs or in the manual. I want to get a pair of 100s, but I need my floppy drive. :)
