Interesting... I didn't know they would be out so soon... I'm also very interested in this!

The Mobility Radeon X300 is supposed to be the successor to the 9000/9200. Thus, in terms of performance, I don't think it would quite measure up to the 9600. The X600/X700, on the other hand, are supposed to show marked improvement over the 9600/9700.

Where'd you find that, since I couldn't find the T43 with the X300 on the website. And how long till the X600/700 come out. Looking for a laptop for college, and i think i found it. BTW, do you think either of these could handle CAD applications without any problems?

The X600/X700 are already available. The Dell Latitude D810, Sony Vaio VGN-A600, Gateway M460, and the Toshiba Tecra A4 all use the X600, and the Acer 8100 series uses the X700. However, I don't think either GPU would really be appropriate for CAD. You'd want a notebook with an nVIDIA Quadro FX or ATI FireGL GPU, like the Dell Precision M20 or M70 or the HP nw8000 workstation.

As a rough analogy, X300 = R9200. An MR9600 will kill it. The Mobile part may also be 64-bit DDR, which would make it a 9200SE.

For CAD/CAM, I'd suggest building a separate desktop with the needed horsepower, then an older laptop for note-taking. A laptop with enough muscle to burn through rendering would probably be more expensive than two individual machines.
