ThinkPad T40p dead pixels?

Hello,

I received my 2 Thinkpads today, they are both G5U kind, T40p.
I opened one to set it up and it seems to work well with that slight buzzing noise every reported.

There is 1 thing that really bothers me though.... It has 1 dead pixel in the lower right area. It's 50% dead or stuck.

When the screen is 100% black then it is blue.
When the screen is 100% white then it is white.
With the deafult IBM background I can't really notice it.
I am really debating whether I should return it for a new one or not.... I even have the accidental warranty....

I know that is is hard to have 0 dead pixels when there are 1400x1050 pixels, but still my previous 2 notebooks didn't have any dead pixels. How many dead pixels did everyone else have on their T40p's?

Thank you.

i have just a T40 (237319U). It had one really annoying dead pixel right in the center of the screen. i think there might of been 2 or 3 other ones. i found these about a week after i got it. since it was within 30 days they just let me return it for a full refund and buy a new one. the trick is, dont call tech support all they can do is refurb the screen for you if it has "enough" dead pixels. call the 1-888-SHOP-IBM type number. then go through the menu until you have no options left and get a customer service person.

i have the 2373G1U ordered from thinkpaddepot. I prayed very hard before it arrived, opened it , pray again and ran the LCD dead pixel test and to my luck, there is 0..

i guess it is all ties down to luck sometimes.

Dead pixel is the biggest problem in the LCD, both for desktop and laptop. I, personally, would not accept a LCD with dead pixels. It is understandable that the technology or man-power required to inspect or prevent the dead pixel to occur is expensive but one dead pixel, in my definition, is one too many. I would suggest that you try to use the laptop for a while, say a week, and see if you really notice the dead, or rather stuck, pixel or not. If it doesn't bother you, then it should be fine. If it bother you, just return the laptop and order a new one. The satisfactory garranty is there for a reason and cover everything that you might not like about the laptop, even if you don't like its color or IBm logo on it, j/k :)

Open up the 2nd box to test out the laptop and the darn thing has a dead pixel!!! AGAIN!!!
This one is much worse, it is towards the middle and it's black. The other one is not noticeable, but this one is horrible. I think Thinkpad #2 is going back to IBM. The 1st Thinkpad is not bad at all compared to this 2nd one. I guess I will loose out on my $50 shipping charge. I called IBM and they said they will pay to pick it up after I have a technical support ticket number, so I am on the phone now trying to speak to someone about dead pixels....(like anything can de done about it...)

oh well, has to be my darn luck.... :(

I had many laptops in the past with dead pixels, don't hit yourself too hard. Just call IBM and send them back (and get a new one if you want to). The next one should be perfect for you. It is kinda rare to get two or three laptops in a row that have dead pixel. Good luck.

Dead and stuck pixels are certainly very annoying - I have vowed never to buy an LCD product from a manufacturer without a 30-day statisfaction guarantee.

I would rather that manufacturers charge more for perfect LCDs rather than lower the prices and have a certain % of panels have defects.

I will see if I can exchange the 2nd laptop, the 1st one is not bad at all. I hate going through the hassle of returning it and getting a new one, never knowing if the replacement one too will have dead pixels.... This is really annoying for what are supposed to be top-of-the-line laptops. Maybe I got the only 2 from this batch with the dead pixels! LOL

if I were you, I would return it while I still can.

it's just you bought a NEW one so you are expecting the best of it. tell them that it has dead pixel and they will waive your shipping fee. that's what they told me when I bought my thinkpad. It gave me dead pixel after a month. They said I could always return it within a month. so I would rather return it if i were you.

screen is expensive if you try to fix it later on in the future.

stingbandel,

Did you get an exchange? I really do like the laptop itself. I will call again tomorrow and tell them both of my laptops have 1 dead pixel each. I think an exchange would be the best solution for me.
