Not much RAM, WinME,13.3 screen and Celeron seem to be the drawbacks here. Not a bad deal, but I think a person could do better if they searched a bit.

It does have a CD-RW though, maybe that helps to make up for some shortcomings, but no DVD is a deal killer for lots of people.

anyone have any opinions? (points the rossman symbol in the air)

LOL, no one told me about this thread (PM me the thread's URL in the future please) I just happened to stumble across it.

I totally agree with Sluggo.

Personally I would spend $174 more and get the next class up laptop the T series which is _A LOT_ better than the I series which is actually a rebadged Acer laptop. Not a True Blue IBM ThinkPad.

$1149 gets you this awesome IBM ThinkPad T22.

There's several reasons it's better:
1) T series instead of I series.
2) Pentium III instead of Celeron.
3) Win 98 SE instead of ME.

Sure a CD-RW is nice but I'm sure that 80% of ATers have a 12x or faster CD-RW already installed on their desktop.

IBM T Series = crap. I go to RPI and the official endorsed school-discounted laptop is the IBM T22. Half the hard drives begin to make clicking noises eventually and fail two weeks later (did they use 75GXP ripoffs for these?), the processors randomly begin doing work if the computer is idle for more than 2 minutes (this may be some software RPI put on to help with dist. computing, I'm not sure), the video card is TERRIBLE (Dell's cost the same and have GF2Go). About the only thing I can compliment this on is the design, it's light, the monitor is well sized, the keyboard is large, and the trackball is responsive (and not a POS touchpad).

every review I've read about the ibm T-series (including the T22) and every friend I know that has a T-series notebook says they are great. I only know people with the A and T series and after using my friend's for a day, I was thoroughly convinced why IBM is known for their hardware. I heard recently (possibly on these forums) that the i-series and possible the other series are not as well made.

I am currently in the market for a A or T series, but am waiting for a hot deal ^^ sometimes I think hanging around here at times has spoiled me to what others would consider a deal... haha. People will show me decent offers, but then I find myself asking myself... is it really a "HOT" deal? =p

Aint that the damn truth, you practically have to get something for nothing to have it be a DEAL anymore.

Reviews can say what they want, RPI probably sold the class of 2005 about 1000 T22s and its rare that I hear about one without one hardware problem or another. Forgot to mention that the PCMCIA bridge is very spotty in its reading of PC cards. I pity the people working at the computer help desk here =).
