Thinkpad 420 Cookies? Issue

Good afternoon,

I have what a website is saying is a cookie authorization issue on my new thinkpad but I suspect that is not the case...

regardless of browser (IE, Chrome, have not tried FF), this one website says "session cookies not enabled." when I try to log in. I have tried logging in on my other PC with the same browsers and it works with no issues. I do have cookies enabled however, and they work just fine on other websites.

Is there any other security settings I should be looking for/troubleshooting? i have tried turning off my firewall, I have tried turning down my internet security...no avail.

Hmm,

I just disabled my virus scanner (Microsoft Essentials) and tried again - same error, no change in status.

Have you enabled Parental Controls for your user account? I've experienced a similar issue with the website Viadeo by simply enabling Time Restrictions.

Check all the security settings in your Lenovo Toolbox. Also, make sure it is the latest version.

When I look in the lenovo toolbox, under security settings, I see three items:
Virus Protection, Passwords, and Software Firewall.

Virus Protection is Microsoft Security Essentials, and the only options under that group are to open MSE.

passwords just has user and screen saver password notices

software firewall allows meto open the windows firewall settings.

Both the virus protection and the software firewall were disabled when I attempted to access the site.

I did go ahead and ensure that all system and windows updates were applied. at least according to windows update and lenovo software update, everything is currently up-to-date.

Is there somewhere else I should be looking in the lenovo toolbox that gives me access to actually change security settings beyond what is in the MSE/firewall settings?

Windows Firewall settings should control that. They can be accessed by the User Account button.

I had the same problem as the OP. The problem was fixed after I went to Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools, opened Update & Drivers, and downloaded all of the relevant updates. Unfortunately I'm not sure which update actually fixed it, but I no longer have the problem.

I just checked again and as of right now now:

I have firewall disabled
I have virus scanner disabled
I have all thinkpad drivers updated
I have all windows updates installed

I still get the "cookies" error only on this specific website at login.

Okay,

Found the issue. Had nothing to do with security at all. This was a fairly new laptop - the date was a head of schedule one day. Fixed the date - issue is gone.
