Thinking of trying an American Micro Disaster rig.

Hey guys, dont mind the title, just a joke. Im looking to make a decent performing low cost rig. Its going to have a Radeon 9700 in it because I already own one. Just looking for a stable motherboard but I have no idea what suxorz and what duzzent suxorz.

So I need to start with a motherboard suggestion and I can take care of the CPU and ram myself.
Rig will never be overclocked, I cant be bothered with that stuff. So any suggestions for a nice stable and decent performing mobo would be appreciated.

P.S. NO VIA chipsets. Even if you swear by them, I will never buy another VIA unless its an integrated firewire chip or something on another mobo and I cant help that.

Wow nice OC!!!! Why you can say who needs A64's I don't think this says anthing about 64bits since we have't really seen the advantages yet. However the results Dapunisher showed with his 2.4ghz doing well against his 3000+ A64 oc'd may vanish quickly if 64 bits can enhance apps 15-30% and more....

So is the talk these mobile bartons can also be made into SMP capable chips???

My Epox 8RDA3I board goes for $69 on Newegg and has everything you need short of SATA and RAID, and since it's only a performance system, I doubt you'll be using that and that this board would serve you very well

the reason its a mobile is its rated to run at 2400 speeds at 1.45V compared too 1.65 because of this the chips are hand picked for thier ability to run on lower volatages which comes in handy when you overclock them, because at normal stock volatage (1.65) I get 2.4 and when I push to 1.8 I get what I got now. The chips are physically identicle to desktop chips just rated for lower voltage

he's not overclocking so he won't need a mobile chip...

the a7n8x is also a good board as well... only prob with refurb is you get no cables or i/o shield...

keep looking into the 8rda+... i'd say it's one of the best boards and darn cheap as well..

if you wanna spend a lil more money, then i say go with the nf7-s v2.0 which is also a nice board as well!

Yeah, the + in the 8RDA3 line just mean it's the board with all the frills
They put little fans on the north and south bridge (my board has a fan on just the north I think), include rounded cables, and have sata support
That's the only difference between the + and mine, and for $20 difference I just didn't see the point when I purchased, as I didn't need any of that
The asus board may be a good choice to...I'm sure most of these boards everyone is suggesting all work about the same

The "word" so far on 2CPU is that they can definatelly run in Dual if you change the next to last L5 bridge, undoing the "Mobile" aspect of the chip. Some are claiming that they get them to work stably as mobiles as well, but many seem to say this isn't the case. This is important as if they can be used as Mobile MPs than its very possible that CPU MSR will work on it and you can enable the FID-Change command through WPCREDIT and dynamically change the multiplier. This has recently been found to work with the Uniprocessor AMD 760 NB via a previously unmapped register, so it is very likely that the register is present on the 760MPX(they are almost literally the same core logic, with the appropriate parts doubled etc).

Anyway the Mobiles are great for Dual Rigs because they are already set to run at a 133Mhz FSB, which is all the Dual Athlon boards will do stock.
