thinking of taking a Japanese course (beginner)

I heard it requires a lot of time... I'll be taking this with 4 other courses. (and probably a part/full time job as well)
I'm proficient in Korean which is somewhat similar to the Japanese language so maybe it'll come "easier" to me
I also took French for 4 years in h.s. ... what a waste that was.

It's just about the most confusing, overcomplicated major language in existance. Take it if you really think you're gonna need it, but I'd learn something else that's more widely used.

Yeah, take it.

Grammar is identical to Korean. Just need to memorize a ton of new words.

There's no need but I just think it's time to learn a new language.
I want to learn a East Asian language.. I already know korean so Japanese seems like the natural choice.
my brain is still able to intake new material and I have the opportunity to learn a new language from experienced teachers for free, so why not?

You may end up finding out that Japanese will be total hell if you're not totally dedicated to it. Also, I just wanted to mention that you will quickly find out that Korean really isn't that simliar to Japanese. If you were going to compare a language to Japanese, Chinese would be the more appropriate choice.
