I'm looking at $46.00 a month for Comcast cable. DSL is now available for about $35.00 a month for up to 256kps down/256kps up. Would this be noticibly slower than my cable?

Setup: I'm using a Belkin router to share my connection. Is the DSL modem an extrnal type similar my cable modem, that can just plug right into my router?

I notice if you use your own ISP you can get the DSL for about $15.00 a month, now we have a free internet provider in this area called nocharge.com(dial up) would that work as an ISP allowing me get DSL for $15.00?

1.)For Browsing ? No
2.)Yes
3.)No, I don't think that would not work.

those prices are not very good. Those are the prices we pay in canada(in CDN). I would suggest looking around for a better dsl provider

For surfing, gaming, downloads. I have tried to run game servers in the past with cable & anymore than 4 or 5 players would lag the connection. Would a dsl have better upload capability alowing for more players to join without lagging?

Friend of mine switched over to DSL because he had to. Moved out of range of Cable.

He hates it with a passion.

He games alot and trying to get IP passthrough to work right seems to be a nightmare on his current configuration.

I am not a networker myself so I do not know. But he wants to open up every dang port on the thing to get it to work and just use a software firewall. But not sure how to do that.

Just junk I tell you. I was considering getting DSL myself but no way I am switching now. Cable is just far and beyond better than DSL unless you pay three arms and a leg for it.

I switched from DSL to cable because DSL was not fast enough for me. Cable has been great so far, extremely low pings in games.

Going from 3.0MB/256 cable to 256/256 dsl would be a major downgrade. You may not experience this during surfing, but downloading will take forever and gaming performance, if you game at all, will suffer *for online multiplayer games I mean*.

I don't think saving $11 for a significant drop in speed is worth it, thats just me.

DSL can be trouble free unlike some posters have said in here.

However if I had a choice between $11 difference between 3 mb Vs 256K I would certainly stick with the Cable.
