Thinking of playing Halo 3

So, do I need to know what was going on in the first two to understand 3 or will I be good to go? I will be playing the first Halo 3, then possibly getting the new expansion.
 
Already discussed in this thread from just last week incidentally. Head on in there and see if there is an answer and post there if you have any questions or comments.
 
FWIW I played Halo 3 without having played any of them and it was still fun. The story was confusing but I had someone explain the first two and then it was fine.

Gameplay wise there are only two really hard parts on Legendary, the rest is easy.
