Thinking of OCing my Duron 750

I've been thinking of OCing mu Duron 750 for kicks. I'm building a CS server (about done) and would like to play around with OCing since it's not my everyday PC. I've got an ASUS A7V133. So how exactly do I do this? Do I need to pencil in the L1 bridges on the chip? Is there anywhere that can give me a step by step on this?
 
Ok well I checked out that article on the anandtech.com website which was very helpful. So if I can change my fsb from 100mhz to 133mhz I should reach 1ghz with the Duron 750, correct? The article says that the original clock multiplier is 7.5x. So it would be 7.5x X 133 to equal 997.5mhz or 1ghz. Is this all correct?

 
AMDPwred, if you're going for 1ghz dont forget to up that voltage.

try at 1.85 at first & drop until you find instabilities then up a bit 🙂

Yes but the question is, can your processor handle that overclocked speed?

That article that you posted says yes🙂 Do you think I would need to up the voltage really?
 
Sir, no two processors a re alike. Meaning, if one Duron 750 overclocks well into 1 Ghz, it doesn't necessarily means yours could reach that speed too. Also, increasing voltage does help give more &quot;juice&quot; to your processor thus increasing stability at overclocked speeds. Just make sure you monitor your overall system stability and temperatures as they will get hotter with overclocking.
 
I understand what you mean about the chips but I'm just saying that I should be able to get around 1ghz.

As for voltage, wouldn't it be ideal to get the max amount of it I can then? What would be the highest I can safely run at?

Sir, since you're using the A7V133, why not experiment of different multiplier/FSB combinations and take the best one.

Personally, anything over 1.85v is living dangerously.
 
Watch out. I think what Biggs meant was that even if that article says that a 750 Duron will make 1GHz, it doesn't mean every single one will hit that speed. what you should do, just to make sure, is to play with the multipliers at the 100 FSB first. Bump the multiplier to 8x. If that works, and is stable, try 8.5, and so on, until you either a)reach 10x or b)reach the last multiplier setting at which the machine is stable. If the processor runs ok at 10x100 (as has been said before, you may have to up the voltage a little to make it stable), I would assume it would be safe to switch the FSB to 133 and let the thing boot at the original 7.5x. Just don't do the 7.5x133 as the first and only step - you may end up frying your CPU.

I'm VERY new to OCing. I haven't gotten my A7V133 yet (in the mail) so I don't know if it has some type of program or settings deal where I can do all this. Do you know? Would I be changing these multiplier/fsb combinations in a settings menu in windows or would I be changing them somewhere else? Could you explain this a little better for me? Thansk for all of your help!

Sir, follow what NTB said, do it incrementally using the 100Mhz bus first 'cuz that will prove to you your processor is capable of running at 1000Mhz. If it is capable then it will most probably run at 7.5 x 133.

Could you answer that other question about where I change these settings for me please?
 
The A7V133 allows manipulations of the multipliers and FSB both through the BIOS and via jumpers on the motherboard. You can also read your manual to get a better explanation on how to fiddle with those settings. Here's is Anandtech's A7V133 review. Just be sure to flash to the latest BIOS to get the most out of your system.
 
One last question, how can I get into BIOS? Is that the little option that comes up when you boot up the PC or can you reach it through Windows somewhere?

Sir, when you first boot-up, there will be an option to press the DEL key to enter the BIOS. Basically, when you first bott up, just hit DEL repetitively as you might miss the short time interval to be able to do this. 🙂

OK, here's a question for you guys........I'm trying to overclock a Duron 750 on an A7V133 and something weird is happening. I unlocked it using a crazypc.com unlocking kit, and I used a magnifying glass to make sure none of the bridges were crossed. It can run fine at 5.5 X 133 (733) and also at 7.5 X 110 (825), but it wont post at 6 X 133 (800), 8 X 100 (800) or anything else with a different multiplier. Does that mean I didn't unlock it right??? Or is the fact that I can run at a lower multiplier show that I did unlock it right?? It is an AKCA Duron, so it should be able to overclock a little bit. I would be happy with 6 X 133 (800) if nothing else, but that work work. Can someone please help me out???
