thinking of moving from a 30D to a T2i

I have a Canon 30D i bought last year from craigslist along with a battery grip & 430EX Speedlight.

I've accumulated a few middle of the road canon lenses (50mm, 28 -135mm, and 70 - 300mm).

99.9% of the time I'm shooting the kids' soccer games and other stuff around the house.

I was thinking it would be nice to have some video of the soccer games, or of Christmas morning etc...

Since the 30D is several years old, does anyone have any opinions about moving to a T1i or T2i for the video? I would have to sell the 30D to fund it.

I'm almost positive I won't be able to use the grip, but I should be able to sell that pretty fast.

I'm thinking you could get $400+ for the 30d with the kit lens. Maybe another $100 for the grip. That would mean that the upgrade would cost you about $300 for a camera body. If you can swing it, I would just because the T2i has much better ergonomics (or so I hear from my Canon peers).

I made this switch back in February. If you can get around not having a thumb-wheel, it's a great switch. The T2i is a solid entry level cam.

I made the switch. However, you should realize that you're going to have to comprise with a smaller body. May change your personal ergonomics. I got the battery grip as well, but I found it be a bit bulky (unnecessary) with my 50mm f/1.8 II, as the T2i is incredibly light.

i am lost without a thumbwheel. i froze on my T1i the other day and use the d-pad to slowly get to where I wanted to go and then used the left/right arrows to adjust the setting. I forgot what I was changing. +/- EV? lol

How about FPS? If you find yourself using the burst rate of the 30D for the kids games. Although, it's not that much.....3.7fps vs 5fps in the 30d.

Besides that, the size and wheel are two big ones for me.

I loved my 40D after owning an XT. I would love to get a DSLR again, and the new Rebels are so tempting, but I still don't know if I would enjoy using one as much as a XXD body.

I love my 40D too, I also have K20D and K10D. All my DSLRs have to have the top LCD and turning wheel.

I honestly adjusted the T2I pretty quickly. I've done three professional shoots with it now and haven't had a single issue. I've got fat hands too.
