Thinking of hitting up Vegas - Where to stay?

I'm thinking of hitting up Vegas with my GF for four nights end of April. I've never been, and would like some advice on where to stay, where to avoid, what to do, etc. Assume the budget is liberal.

Neither of us are big into gambling - is it a waste of time going?

Seeing as I was in the city earlier this month for a few days, and I am also uninterested in gambling...

It is a waste of time and money going to Vegas.

This is obviously a personal, subjective thing, but I found the city to be disgusting. I wouldn't go again.

anywhere on the strip, or the rio. BIG ROOMS, cheap price, and the bathroom is connected to the main room with a window! :Q 😛

I suggest the strip foremost if you've never been, that way you can walk every where.
The rio has much cheaper and very close to the strip and offers free shuttle rides.

ADD got you down?

You want to visit Vegas but you aren't interested in gambling?? If this is the case then DON'T go. Vegas is basically built on gambling and everything in the city is akin to a Hollywoodesque prop, it is so fake that Disneyland seems more real. NYC is a much better destination. I have visited both cities.

yes, it is a waste of time to goto Vegas and not gamble!!!

it's like driving an hr to goto a brothel and only having drinks at the bar.

as to where to stay w/gf..STAY AWAY FROM THE GARDEN TOWERS at the tropicanna.

Venetian is best if u r bringing gf. they are 5star htoel and all suites. stay at the new Tower. BRAND new. just opened.

bellagio is also 5 star, but will cost u more, and smaller rooms. if i didnt make myself clear..VENETIAN if u r bring gf.

But then again, i am biased since i am comped there (OFTEN). 🙂 😛 😉

I disagree that Vegas is no good if you don't gamble.

Other places might be better but we loved Vegas when we were there.

Saw a bunch of shows, rented a car went to Hoover Dam/Lake Mead and Red Rock Canyon.

The biggest impression I came from Vegas with was a town whose entire population seemed to be intent make our time there as pleasant as possible. It was kinda freaky the way that everyone seemed to be having a good day. Everyone looked to do whatever they could to make us happy.

Both the wife and I are thinking about moving there when I retire.

We stayed at the Venetian. It was $250 a night. They brought a frig right to the room for free.

😱 My bad

So what constitutes liberal? 200-300 a night? 400-500?

If money is no object, then go with the Bellagio. I'd say go for the Venetian if you are on more of a budget, the suites start at around $200 a night.

Went to Vegas 2 weeks ago for 7 days with 3 minors (i'm 21) and everyone still managed to have a good time. Of course, we went to LA on a mini-roadtrip for 3 days of that and had a blast. Vegas is hard to handle for very long, more than 3 days, especially if you don't gamble or don't have wads and wads of cash. We stayed in a pretty decent hotel 1 mile from the strip w/ little amenities for 35 a night. However, we got upgraded and our room was pretty big. About twice the size of standard hotel room. It all works out if you have a rental van 😛 As far as something to do in Vegas besides gambling, since strippers are out, the show Jubilee was entertaining and just eat a boatload of food every day, and sightsee. That's about it.

I have been to Vegas probably 100 times, and I have stayed almost everywhere. (I'm not exaggerating either). Anyway, I think one of the better places for the money is the NY, NY. Decent rooms for good prices, plus it's in a great location. If you want to spend some more cash, then the Venetian is a really good upgrade.

Stay away from the Tropicana, Aladdin, Stratosphere, Excalibur, and Circus Circus...

I think good places to stay are The Luxor or New York New York. Both are centrally located to all the newer hotel/casinos. I've been about 5 times, and always end up staying at The Luxor due to price and services provided.

I have yet to stay "on the strip".

Mandalay Bay just opened up their new hotel called "the hotel" Its off the strip but it's supposed to be really nice. All suites, sq ft start at around 750. Plasma tvs in living room and bathroom. Half bath as you enter the living room. Doors open to king size bed(s). Suppose to be super elegant. Mandalay bay oringial hotel has the top floor decked out in House of Blue theme. Pretty funky design for rooms - stayed there about 4 years ago.

Just stayed at the Venetian, also very nice. I did priceline for a 5 star hotel and got the room for $119 + tax and fees bringing it to $141. I could of prolly gotten it at $99 a night as most have done.

Staying at Bellagio is really nice too if you can get the lake view. It's spectacular to see the fountains at night from the top. Rooms are really nice as well.

My girlfriend and I have more fun in NYC than we do in Vegas.

Please, tell me more. NYC was also on our consider list.

Dude, trust me. You'll have a blast in NYC. We normally stay at the Edison hotel on W 47th. right in Times Square. There is a ton of stuff to see and do. And don't even get me started on the Restaurants - My God, the food!! NYC has it all. Romance, entertainment, food, everything! Best time would be in the spring or fall. We leave our hotel in the morning, spend the days sight-seeing, dining, etc, and don't return to our rooms till Midnight. We even rented Rollerblades and skated in Central Park last fall. An absolute blast!!

My brother was just in Vegas for work and stayed at the MGM. He said it was a cool experience. Honestly, he was out there for work, alone, and didn't gamble. But, he did say he thought it would have been a better experience had he been out there for a few days with his wife and some money to waste.
