Is my only option to be able to use all 4 GB of ram is to stay with Windows Vista 64 bit ? If I went back to windows xp wouldn't it only be able to use up to 3 GB of my ram or maybe even less because of my geforce 8800 GTS video card?

You could install XP64 but it's pretty much a dead-end product, all new development will be targeted at Vista.

I doubt that new hardware will not be supported by Windows XP at all. The only real reason for Vista is DX10 and current generation cards aren't even capable of running DX10 at high framerates.

The OP really seems like he is going to "go back" to Windows XP. Don't fight them when they choose that option.

Who said I was talking about hardware?

Don't fight them when they choose that option.

So we're just supposed to let people choose the lesser option without full consideration?

Why do you want to go back to XP? Im using vista ultimate 64 bit on my desktop and its ok. I think the best option is to stick with 64 bit vista, im no vista fan but if you have 4GB of ram or more then its your best bet.

Want get every little bit of extra Crysis performance I can get with my Geforce 8800 GTS. SLI is useless. Even if I don't go back to Windows XP for full use I may just still dual boot it with Windows Vista 64 bit so I can see if there really is a 10 to 15 fps boost in Crysis frame rate performance. That could make all the difference in the world.

If that's the only reason, just lower the settings to all "High", and perhaps your resolution down a notch.

Makes no sense to go through all that hassle to get something like 5 extra FPS, IMO.

Keep the Vista, adjust the Crysis settings...

Just as a FYI, the performance difference in my box (sig) between Vista 64 and XP 32 for Crysis is definitely less than 5fps, and unnoticeable outside benchmarking.

Definitely not worth it. They only reason I keep XP in my box is because my Line 6 GuitarPort has no 64-bit drivers...otherwise I'd have wiped that partition clean a long time ago.

Thats not what he said, he said he could run XP64 but that is a dead product. The amount of driver work on 64bit Vista is for more signifigant than for XP64 since it's the first mainstream MS 64bit OS. No amount of wordsmithing is going to change that fact.

Exactly, you can do plenty of things like disable shadows /AA in menu settings etc....you lose DX10 and other features by going back ,besides quite normal to fine tune a game .

I always end up changing video settings in a game regardless of XP or Vista.
FYI I still quite happy with my 7800GT card in gaming.
