Thinking of going back to Atrix

I bought the Atrix full price straight cash on launch day. Wasnt eligible for upgrade since I used it on iPhone 4 but returned it for full refund (phone is rather cheap compared to others at full price). My main reason behind this was that it was locked down and I wanted to get the full android experience. There wasnt a root out for it at the time and what was marketed as a "4G" phone wasnt even pulling the same speeds as my iPhone was even though it showed the H+ sign.

Feels stupid because I already had the phone but I had no complaints about the phone other than I felt like what I paid for I wasnt getting in full and now that AT&T and rooting has enabled these speeds and the product will perform as its intended to, that I should give it another shot. The Atrix or the Inspire (I like big phones). I've always had iPhones and had a Moto Droid and loved Android and feel like its time for me to make the complete switch. I guess I'm just looking for opinions as to if its even worth it or if I should pay ETF and move to Verizon while I can still get unlimited 4G which is coming to my area soon (State College, PA)

Well, look at it this way: AT&T will be capping their internet cables soon, regardless of what plan you are on or if you are God. And there have been talks if not fact about them capping mobile internet down to 2GB or so.

Verizon isn't showing signs of it.

I'd say, depending on your data use pattern, perhaps Verizon might be the better choice. Even considering that the Thunderbolt can pull off almost 2-3x the speed that the Atrix is pulling now on HSPA+. There's just no comparison.

If you're willing to pay full price, get an imported SGS2.

As a general heads up, root for the Atrix was out for the phone before it was available for sale. It sounds like wherever you are getting your information from is behind, stick to XDA devs and you won't run into that problem again.

AT&T has enabled full 4G on some Atrix, just be aware that if you walk into the store to buy one and try it out there it is a very real possiblity that you won't see the speeds. You need to be running 4.1.83(easy way to tell is it will be Android 2.2.2 instead of 2.2.1) to have unlocked 4G which still hasn't been pushed to the 'stock' Atrix I have here(you can push the update using RSD Lite if you download it to your PC). A side note, download speeds didn't change much for me, upload and ping improved significantly however.

I think what he wanted was to replace the stock ROM with a vanilla Android ROM, but since the bootloader is locked&encrypted, no dice there.

I think what you have found is that iOS is superior to Android.
Just keep your iPhone 4.

That doesn't really sound like it. It sounds more like annoyance with at&t's long stance on not offering HSUPA on anything except the iphone, as well as being frustrated with Motoblur/Motorla's locked boot loader.

At least at&t is finally enabling HSUPA on non-iphones, but I still wouldn't switch to them.

If you do switch to Verizon, I'd go for the Droid Charge. The battery life alone makes it better than anything else Verizon has. Sure, it isn't dual core, but the hummingbird is still pretty damn powerful.

Locked bootloader removes the easy way to do it, with root you can deodex and do almost everything a full custom ROM does. They have psuedo Sense builds, stock Android style builds and psuedo Honeycomb builds available for the Atrix(with all of Moto's bloat gone, although honestly a good chunk of their 'bloat' is pretty good). Actually, most of them work with CWM at this point so it isn't a huge difference in terms of functionality compared to most custom ROMs(C7 is an exception).
