Thinking of getting rid of premium channels...

Hmm... I feel that even though it's stated there explicitly that HOAs can't prohibit these antennae, the FCC will not come to your rescue when the HOA puts a lien on your house. You could sue but all for an antenna?

Q: Who do I call if my town, community association or landlord is enforcing an invalid restriction?

A: Call the Federal Communications Commission at (888) CALLFCC (888-225-5322), which is a toll-free number, or 202-418-7096, which is not toll-free. Some assistance may also be available from the direct broadcast satellite company, broadband radio service provider, television broadcast station, or fixed wireless company whose service is desired.

That is what you do. Then put up an antenna after they solve the problem for you.

I swear, nobody is willing to stand up for their rights anymore, and then act surprised when we lose them. We would rather bitch.

Q: Who is responsible for showing that a restriction is enforceable?

A: When a conflict arises about whether a restriction is valid, the local government, community association, property owner, or management entity that is trying to enforce the restriction has the burden of proving that the restriction is valid. This means that no matter who questions the validity of the restriction, the burden will always be on the entity seeking to enforce the restriction to prove that the restriction is permitted under the rule or that it qualifies for a waiver.

We had a promotion going until this month, and now our premium channels are going to cost $60+ total for Starz/HBO/Cinemax/Encore. To be honest, the movies on these channels suck. I don't watch any of the series, and I do have a netflix subscription... and the movies on netflix are almost better than the movies on the premium channels.

Has anyone else gotten Netflix and used that as an excuse to get rid of the premium channels?

Seems pretty straight forward. Do these channels still have commercials?

I've never even had premium channels. They came as part of a deal when I got my satellite hooked up, but I had them cancelled immediately. There is no point to me having them.

Considering what premium channels cost, it's hard to justify keeping them. I got rid of cable in my house a couple months ago, and really have no regrets about the decision. I was spending $130+ for about 3 shows a week. That figures out to about $10 an episode.

Now, I spend about $20 a week for 4-5 shows a week, which figures out to about $1 an episode. Plus, with the $110 I am saving each month, I can justify purchasing the seasons of the shows I don't get. Or simply upping my Netflix subscription so I can get more disks.

As much as I miss some channels (NFL Network, Food Network for the wife), they just aren't worth the premium paid to get them.

I have netflix and no need for premium channels, I'm actually contemplating dropping my TV service completely and just going with OTA + netflix streaming + dvd and bluray

fios had a special that gave us sho/starz/encore for 3 months for free. during that time i watched so many movies, even ones i'd already seen, on work nights until almost 2 am every night. i loved it. but i was always tired. once the promotion ran out i missed the movies for about a week. now i don't miss them at all.

You guys with no cable tv must not watch that many sports. Too many sports are on cable today to get rid of it.

That's my only reason for not dumping cable. Especially this time of year...March through early June are fantastic months for sports, not to mention NFL during the Fall and Winter...

Omfg. Just got my FIOS bill today. Let a friend stay over for a couple days. Must have ordered 3 adult films while I was at work for $12.99 a pop and charged to my account. What an asshole.

Was about to call and cancel thinking they upped my rate, good thing I checked. Would have been an embarrassing phone conversation with the rep.

This has been my holdup but I think I'm going to break free this summer when my contract with Dish is up. If I miss the sports really bad I can always sign up again. But I think I'll be fine with OTA HD, Netflix, Hulu, XBMC, and ESPN3.

call anyways.

Most companies will credit one round of VOD's as long as there isn't a history of them on your account.

So I dumped HBO and Cinemax. Kept Starz and Encore. Chopped 30% off my monthly bill. Will probably dump starz and encore too at some point soon.

With all the streaming content available on free sites, why buy?

lol, guess cause it wasn't his account? Said he hoped I wouldn't notice them on the bill. He had my laptop downstairs too.

Anyway I did call Verizon to see about removing the charges, after an awkward conversation she was able to determine the videos were viewed for over 10 minutes, so unable to credit me.
Also asked if there were any promos to lower my bill, it has been going up each month and getting to be more than it's worth. She said call back on the 1st and there may be something.

So if I can't lower it, may just cancel TV service entirely and go back to internet only. Survived a long time without cable, really only got it cause it was only $30/month more for extreme HD fios package with 2 HD boxes.

With mlb.tv and a couple HD antennas really don't need cable, and probably buy a Netflix subscription so my gf has easy access to shows/movies without me home.

I've never ordered the movie channels but can attest that they suck, had a free promo of Cinemax and HBO couple weekends ago.

$60?! That's more than half of our cable bill and we have SHO/HBO/MAX, broadband and unlimited long distance (land line).
