Thinking of getting into planetside 2, do people still play it?

Yes, it's active though you need to know that empire balance isn't done perfectly; they try to do a "different but balanced" approach but unfortunately someone usually has a gear advantage. In my opinion, NC will be hardmode, VS medium mode, and TR easy mode. VS used to be easy mode but they are constantly patching. This can vary slightly for individuals if the playstyle of a particular empire suits your individual skills, naturally.

But this game gives you lots of options for play that a game like BF or CoD just don't give you.

It's still very active. Quite zergy in most respects, but there are always smaller side fights going on. Agree with maniacalpha1-1's ranking of the realms. The game is worth checking out even if you don't end up playing for long, just to see the scope of the three continents. Sometimes a large battle, especially at night, can be awe-inspiring.

I played it for a couple of weeks after it came out. I was extremely underwhelmed. It's little more than Battlefield in space so I hope you like flying planes or driving tanks, or getting your shit pushed in by them all day long while on foot.

Well it's F2P so you don't have a lot to lose, but I will say that I sunk about £50 in to the game at launch and got bored of the constant balance issues and bugs, so quit around the end of Jan.

I've played a bit but now I waiting (other games in the backlog). The game is getting better and I don't want to burn myself out on it now. I just log in once in a while to the passive certs. I figure once they release new continents and continent locking, I'll give it another shot and see how the game is.

I tried it for a day when my friends played, thought it was pretty suck. They played for a few weeks, haven't seen any of them on there lately though.

Are you saying it was pretty SICK and it's a typo, or do you think it sucks and that's just how you said it?

Sure, that happens a lot. But there are some very definite balance issues in the game, they'd finally managed to balance air last time I played but the NC were spamming dual splatter MAX configs in all base fights to the point where about 50% of the troops had the same load out, it's one of the most blatantly ridiculous balance issues I've ever seen, have they even fixed that yet, I cant even be arsed to go back and check.
