Thinking of getting an XBox......

I was at my brother's over the weekend and we were playing some XBox and it was actually pretty cool.
Well, it got me thinking. I need to build a new PC if I want to play the new games coming out. Its going to cost me around 800 bucks. Then after I build it I willl have to do lots of installs, buy the games, and do more installs.
Instead, I could get an XBox for 180 bucks and then buy the games.
The XBox would definately save me some money. (I know I know, I would save even more money if I didn't buy either.)
And another point, game consoles come out every 4 to 5 years. PC hardware comes out all the time. The XBox has already been out for what, 2 years already? So even if it has 2 years of life left, it would still be cheaper in the long run.
And since the XBox is Microsoft and very much like a computer, many PC games will also be available for it.

So in a nutshell: The XBox is cheaper, will last longer, easier to maintain, and alot of the games I want.

So what do you think? Is my logic reasonable? Should I go for it?

There, I fixed the frickn title.

If there are patches or mods for a PC game..........could there also be patches and mods for the XBox versions?
Its got a hard drive, so would you be able to download them to it?

Thats the only down site I can think of for the XBox. Downloading maps, patches, mods, characters, etc may not be possible.

Xbox Live compatible games are capable of getting those things. MS is trying to make it a policy of not patching Xbox games so as not to give developers the same excuse for the Xbox that they use for PC games (release now, patch later). A patch was provided for the Xbox version of UT because of online-play issues but patches haven't been issued for other games.

Xbox Live does allow for extra maps, mods, characters, etc.

Yeah, there are rumours of a PS2 price drop. If that happens, Xbox will likely match it. Supposed to occur sometime in early November.

That said, you can find some pretty good deals for an Xbox if you look hard enough. Especially refurbished Xboxs.

Xbox is awesome, I'm sure if you bought one you'd be happy with it :) If your into modding, xbox is the best system to get as it can do a variety of things. Too much to list and some are probably a little illegal but anyway it's a great system and has great games. Xbox live is the best online console program right now too :)

Xbox is great, I have one, I'm looking foward to many of the games coming out soon.

I suggest before you commit to buying one, look at whats out for it, and whats coming out soon. If you like what you see, theres no reason not to go for it.

xbox.ign.com has a great list of games and future releases.

Since your brother has an xbox, you can try out games at his house. See what games are out that might interest you, maybe rent it for a night to see if you like it. If you find enough games that interest you, then buy the xbox.

Personally I'm a big multiplayer fan and I'm really picky about what games I play, so I can't do as much with a console.

XBox Live only works with cable internet or all forms of broadband?

Get xbox. I've basically given up on PC gaming because it's too expensive, it's on a smaller monitor, and I just am not into games as a whole as much now, so the xbox is perfect. I still consider the PC a better gaming machine, but when you concisder bang for buck the xbox is superior.
