I read through quite a few forums and nothing, even talked to some mac store people. I ended up getting one for $479, pretty damn cool so far, working on jailbreak and whatnot now.

Seeing as how it's an iPhone derivative and the only thing that changed with the 3G iPhone was the cellular chipset (the CPU/RAM/GPU/Wi-fi chips are all the same), there's no need to produce a new revision of the iPod Touch. Apple could always tweak something just for the hell of it, but that seems unlikely. The base platform won't change until a 2009 iPhone refresh at the earliest.

Are they lowering the price of the touch? Can you buy a 3G iPhone and just not activate it and use it as a touch? would be a lot cheaper.

No, the price is not going down. And no, you can't buy an iPhone and not activate it (you have to activate it at the store). AT&T is subsidizing these things, they no doubt cost a good $200-$300 more than they're being sold for; you're not going to be allowed to walk out of the store with a subsidized phone and not have a contract to from which AT&T can recover the subsidy.

Any must have downloads with jailbreak?

Jeebus, going from creative to apple is a chore in itself.

BossPrefs, BossTool, an IM client, MNPlight (if you need streaming radio), iSolitaire, iPhysics, weDict, and Flashlight are all rather popular programs for jailbroken Touches.

I have an itouch and I LOVE it... really helps out on those long plane rides.

I do have two questions though...

1. Is there a good, reliable battery back up for those extra long 15 hour flights? I'm a video hog on those flights and the touch only lasts 5 hours or so... two movies and some music. I can fire up the lap top to recharge but it's a PITA.

2. WTF is jailbreak? When I google it I get a million ways to DO it but I have no idea WHAT it is.

2. jailbreak allows you to put third party apps on your itouch.

Nope. The GPS functionality appears to be part of the cellular chipset since it's using A-GPS.

I have a lot of reading to do, itunes is pissing me off that it is only allowing me to upload music to only one computer. damnit, i have music at work and home. Im sure there is a way around it.
